I needed to set him straigth about these "absurd UK fans." On ATR, he was knocking on us and I didnt like it.

Plaschke was the only one of the four panelists who said this wasn't a significant loss for UK.

Congrats. You just made him think we are even crazier than he thought before... While you are at it send Tubby one expressing your anger that he lost the game for us last night... lol.

I have come to realize (finally) in middle age that most of these talking heads don't really care one way or another as long as they can look like they have something Pulitzer ready to say.

If anyone from the state of Kentucky really thought we'd make a serious run at anything EXCEPT a team that gave more effort and looked like they were having some fun, I haven't met them.

Yeh, at least Plaschke was the only one that had a decent perspective on it, saying we had only practiced a few weeks under new system.

Others were saying the standard lines: "fans ran off Tubby EVEN THOUGH HE WON 9 SEC TITLES.......FANS RAN OFF TUBBY EVEN THOUGH HE WON A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP......FANS'LL RUN OFF BG IF ANY OF THE UPCOMING WEAK SISTERS BEAT US".......BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

Mariotti is the one I'd like to sucker-punch.....idiot!

Some people are idiots.

The thing that I don't like about most of the ESPN talking heads is that it is OBVIOUS that they don't really follow college sports. Plaschke, Marriotti, Adande, MacMullen, Paige, et al. are out of their comfort zones if they aren't talking NFL, NBA, or MLB.

It's their job to be a holes, no matter what they are talking about.

sometimes a small minority of our fans make us look REALLY bad. if there's anyone who denies this than you probably are part of that minority. it has nothing to do with who's a bigger fan than who, or other absurdity of that nature. it has everything to do with the fact that some fans are just insane. we all complain about the bad wrap we get in the national media at times. however, instead of rebutting that claim we simply prove it by sending hate mail and challenging the media. if you go look at some of the threads on different boards last night or if you heard the booing last night and you aren't embarassed by it then your the part of the group the media bashes. i couldn't believe that i heard people booing our guys. i mean am i the only one that realizes that we've had less than a month's time to install a COMPLETELY new system. am i the only one who realizes that our upper classmen have to completely forget everything they learned under the old regime. none of this was meant to accuse anyone on this thread of anything. it's just to point out that the media is right about our fanbase. do they sensationalize everything and take things too far??? sure, but if they didn't no one would watch/listen/read.

I support our coach to the utmost. The only thing he may want to rethink is a full practice on game day. Espeacially if they play the night before. That being said, I think there are just simpely some things he is trying to get them to do in his system they are not doing. I believe they are going to loose a lot more games if they don't listen. The starting 5 he started is not our best offensive team by far so the more talented players are apparently are not buying into what he wants to do. They don't play until Nov 21 I believe so maybe the team will start believing and we will see a different team. And I don't support anyone Booing our team and there are UK fans with very unrealistic expectations that think UK should never loose.

I agree with the first half of your post but disagree with what you say about booing. If the same thing would have happened at any other major program they would have gotten booed. You have to remember we got beat handily last night, not just by a couple points in overtime or something. There was not one aspect of our game that could even remotely be called "OK". Kentucky fans, and other big program's fans are smart. They know this and they would get very angry about they way we played last night. Needless to say some were more upset than others, but the booing was to be expected. If you think the same thing could happen to UNC this year and an equally proportional number of fans would not get upset enough to boo than you are dreaming.

The booing last night did not insinuate at all that our fans are "crazy". It said that they were extremely upset... and with just cause IMO.

The way I see it is that these "talking heads" are always on the outside looking in where there is absolutely no perspective at all. Therefore, they should be readily dismissed as the no-nothings they truly are.

They are jealous of the guys who can play the game and the guys who can get coaching gigs. You get hired by ESPN when you are washed up as a player/coach (Dick Vitale, Lee Corso, Doug Gottlieb), or when you are so obnoxious in your local media (Stephen A. Smith, Skip Bayless, Jay Mariotti, etc.) that no one there can stand you anymore.

To me, bottom line is that most of the time these guys are trying to get attention--either in the form of a fanbase that despises their comments, or from the rest of the world that's just interested that one of the big boys in college basketball just fell. Adding things like "go back to the mountains" shows their ignorance, but much of the country that knows nothing about Kentucky is laughing with him. That's fine...this is our piece of heaven, not everyone can appreciate that. They don't deserve to know a place as fine as this, or the pride in a program like ours.

You make some excellent points in this post, countrycat. I especially agree with your first paragraph. I, too, fully support our coach, but think he might want to rethink the full practices when games are played on consecutive nights.

I, too, think it's a good thing having two weeks of practice to make more players BELIEVE in what Coach G is expecting of them, or listening and doing what he tells the players to do--as Jodie Meeks called it. I, likewise, NEVER support booing our own team (although I do understand that the repeated failure to get back on breaks and to contest lay-ups from back-door cuts was most frustrating and disappointing) and think there are indeed some UK fans who expect NEVER to lose a game, as you say.

Let's just hope we start improving and then get some POSITIVE attention from the natonal media. GO CATS! GO COACH G!
