Florida State (http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/teams/page/FLST) gave basketball coach Leonard Hamilton a two-year contract extension Thursday through 2012. Hamilton begins his sixth season with the Seminoles, who won more than 20 games in each of the past two seasons. He is 87-71 overall at Florida State.
University President T.K. Wetherell believes the program is headed in the right direction, despite not reaching the NCAA Tournament since 1998.
"Coach Hamilton advocates winning not only on the basketball court but also in the classroom and in the game of life," Wetherell said. "He builds winning basketball teams and young men of character."

Can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with FSU recruiting Singleton.

That statement I'm sure has been used by BG. Anyone should see that and see the program is not in that good of shape.

Me too. Considering the practical meaningless of these extensions, and Hamilton's sad record there, I have to think this is a way of convincing Singleton that Hamilton will be there all 4 years.

It sure couldn't hurt with Singleton, but I think it helped them with another recruit much more. I think his name is Luke something?

I said the same to my husband when I had read the scroll line of the news on ESPN. Further, if I were a betting woman, I would bet on it. Remember that Mr. Singleton is supposed to announce his decision Tuesday, November 14.

Is Singleton that good? I mean I know he's good ,but I am thinking that this was going to happen anyway. FSU probably doesn't care too much about basketball and they like Hamilton personally and despite not being in the NCAAs he has made things exciting down there beating DUke twice in the last two years and Florida last season. They always seem to be a pretty decent team and I believe that they have been given a raw deal a couple of those years. I don't think they would extend a coach that they didn't like's contract for one player. JMO.

He should make a nice complement to Patterson on the inside, and has enough outside of the post game to draw defenders out and allow for a much easier situation for Patrick. On paper, he looks like a big difference maker for this roster.

What I was trying to say is, is he the type of player that you extend contracts for?

Sad record? He is 87-71 with back to back 20 win seasons........ at Florida State! He certianly is doing a good job there, plus he is a former Cat, so I have always had a soft spot for him.

Oh, ok. Well, lol I guess that depends on the school :icon_lol: He's not Greg Monroe, but he's still very good. But, I think he got what, another 2 years on the contract? Not real sure, but I think that's what I read.
At any rate, hopefully coach's trip down there yesterday will help out. I'm anxious to find out, that's for sure. He's supposed to announce by mid next week, so good news on that front would sure help with the loss, lol.

I don't think it has anything to do with recruiting one or two kids. It is pretty clear to me that it is about continuity of the program which appears to be obviously headed in the right direction.

He's a top 35 player, so, yep, he's pretty good. Especially good for UK since he could provide some under the basket presence.
