But Minnesota is not Kentucky. It doesn't have the history or the crazy high expectations of a fan base that lives and dies with each win.
It's a fantastic place for the Tubster to start anew. At Minnesota, there are no looming shadows by the names of Rupp and Pitino. The Gophers haven't had a marquee program since Clem Haskins (ironically a Kentucky guy who left the program disgraced and mired in NCAA violations) was there. The Gophers were so bad last year (only nine wins) that it's hard to believe they can get any worse. Tubby looks like the calvary to most people.

tubby will never get minneysota into the NCAA tourney. He will be fired there in less than 5 years. He started at the top here and took UK down to mid major level. He is starting at the bottom there.
His fall won't be a remarkable there as he doesn't have very fall to fall.
he is a lazy recruiter and a sorry coach. UK's gain is their loss.
.......hey we played a football game today and won .lots going on in the football forum

He didn't exactly start at the top at Tulsa or Georgia. As memory serves me - he did okay at those places.
But, I'm sure you could have done better.

now if the Mn message boards will start banning all the idiot "I hate Tubby" morons that flood their sites they can get on with their new era...

Tubby was always a good guy in a bad fit who did admirably well for eight years at Kentucky. I believe it was time for change on both parts, and while I don't have a problem comparing Billy's accomplishments to Tubby's, I think it's idiotic and portrays the stereotypes all to well to downgrade him.

Ridiculous post. What are you, like 14 years old? Is your frame of reference for b-ball the last two or three years? And also, IMHO, Tubby would not have lost vs. Gardner Web the other night. Not saying I wish he were still here, simply stating he is one of the BEST in game coaches in college b-ball and would've adjusted to pull out a single digit to 10 point victory that would have had us scratching our heads a little, but still would've been a win, as we have seen so many times in the past. We will be better in the long run with BCG, IMO, but there is no denying Tubby for a one game scenario.

A friend of mine said the same thing the other night. At first I thought it was a ridiculous assertion, but now I kind of agree. His team would have played better defense.

His team would have definately played good enough defense to stop GW (maybe not force turnovers out of UNC or Tenn.) but he would have stoped GW. With that said... I don't care because we are going to take some early hits this season as we grow into the new era. Part of this is an entirely new defensive look that looks a whole lot more exciting and promising for the future.

I personally wish the guy the best but beyond that, I really don't care how well or poorly that he does at Minnesota. For selfish reasons, I wish he would retire so that we could just get rid of these pissing matches here on WCN but alas, that's just too much to wish for.
For the record, I'm happy to have BG here, however, I have to also admit that I think the loss last week was the worst that I've witnessed as a UK fan and frankly, I'm embarassed. While Tubby had issues, well documented and debated, I do not believe that he would've lost that game, however, had it happened, this forum would be buzzing for his instant resignation.
I am glad to see that most are taking the loss last week with some perspective, however, there is a double-standard being employed here that shouldn't be ignored.

tubby would not have to GW. Without Legion and PP and add in tubby's coaching, we would have lost the first game and would have been in the losers bracket. tubby would have lost to Alabama A&M in the second game.
We would be sittin here 0-2 and having to listen to how tubby does his best work off the court.
We have a winner here in BCG. It's going to take him longer to clean up the tubbification of UK than many of us thought. The great thing is that the process has begun.

I agree completely Rockober. I can't believe anyone would have made a post like JDeasy. There is no sense in anyone being that vindictive against an ex-UK coach who has said nothing but good things about UK.

Apparently you haven't read very many of ol' jd's posts. His hatred for all things Tubby overshadows his desire to ever represent himself as a rational human being. Sad, but true.
He's to be both pitied and ignored.

Someone close this thread. We do not care about Joe Hall, Eddie Sutton, or Rick Pitino anymore. They have left the greatest college basketball school ever. We need to return to glory because the current group of recruits were 7,8,9 years old the last time we were in the Final Four. BCG is our man now.

Whether anyone can stand to admit it or not, TS is one of the best in-game tacticians around. But he never proved at Kentucky to be able to recruit consistently or motivate the team consistently.
He'll be fine at Minnesota.
We'll be fine with him at Minnesota.
