7-3 with 2 to go.

Musings.....

If our Charmin soft defense doesn't get their heads out of their tails, then it will end up 7-5. UT and Ga have much better offenses than this mediocre Vandy offense that rushed 250 yds on us. The defense has gone south since the LSU game for some reason, and it isn't injuries.

The offense was slow to go today again, but the sparkplug was once again, Locke. The young guy is just dynamite and I think will be a star in the SEC before he is through.

What ever happened to Keenan Burton?

Where would we be without Stevie Johnson this year? Big catch after big catch.

That 49yd FG at the end of the 1st half was huge. Seiber is inconsistent for sure, but he has made some big kicks this year.

Was this the worse officiated game ever? May have been. The officials were just flat horrible all day and changed the flow of the game at times.

We haven't eclipsed the 100+ yards/game since that LSU game until today. That plays a factor in ball control. I think the penalties absolutely killed us today and cost us several big plays and 3 & outs so that negated our first 100+ game since LSU.

Our defense is below average and has gotten ALOT of help from UK's balanced offense that we saw so much of in the beginning of the season. We have to get that back to help out our defense. I think today's game was an exception due to the horrid calls.

We had no flow while on offense today for the most part. Penalties had a lot to do with it, but it seemed our timing was off.

Burton make a great catch, but it was nullified by a holding call. We must play better or it could get ugly next Saturday.

First UK team I have seen in a long time that can play badly and WIN. It was A big win but leaves some serious issues to be worked out if we are to finish strong.
1. Our offensive line. What has happened to it. Very poor performances two straight games.
2. Offensive schemes; We need to retool our offense to account for blitz packages. Have made little or no adjustments to bitzing pressure defenses palyed agianst us the last two weeks. We better because we will face EXACTLY the same type of defense next week at UGA and they have much better personnel to bring the pain. It seems to me we need some plays to utelize quick hitters to Tamme. I also don't like the way we are using Burton, he is a huge talent and could do much more than run deep outs or post routes(about the ONLY thing we are doing with him right now). I would like to see some flanker screens, and a few more plays designed to get the ball quickly to Burton in space. D coordinators seemed to have "figured us out", time for Joker to earn his money.
3. Our defense needs to blitz more itself. We are not generating CONSISTANT pressure on Quarterbacks in last two games with our front four. UGA will kill us if we don't put some heat on the QB.
I think both games left are winnable, especially UT at home, but we better make some adjustments because what we have been doing lately will not cut it.

Are you kidding me? Stevie (all or noting stevie)? Don't throw him a short pass because he won't catch it. Throw him a rainbow deep pass and he might haul it in. But, please don't throw him anything less than a 25 yarder, because he gets happy hands.

Burton is a star. Woodson is off his game. He is not hitting his receivers in stride. What in the name if Heisman is going on? You heard it hear first folks. Woodson is in a major slump. He needs to snap out of it. Also he plays nervous in the pocket. He has a 1st down if he runs, but takes a blind side sack? There is no Heisman watch on this game. UK is playing not to lose. It's time that they start playing to win. There is a definite difference from the first 5 games, compared to what UK is now on the field. They definately need to get their swagger back, especially a certain player at the QB spot.

I agree. Woodson along with the offensive line have not played like they did at the beginning of the year. The team has played tight and I also think the coaches play calling has been very conservative. They know they are the better team and no one is gambling any more. Now that this team knows it will be going to a good bowl game and will be a under dog the next two games, I see them bringing it again.I at least hope so.

Johnson has by far been our most consistent reciever this year and has a knack for making big plays at big times. yes he's dropped a couple of big plays in a couple of big games but made up for them with game winning TD's against LSU and Louisville.

I'm anxious to watch the replay tonight but from what it sounded like on the radio, we managed to win despite everything conspiring against us..namely the refs...we stopped Vandy at least 3 times on 3rd down on one 2nd half Vandy drive only to have the refs hand them a first down on either "Late Hit" or two "Pass Interference" penalties. There was also the botched fumble call, and apparantly a lot of questionable holding calls (according to Rich Brooks halftime interview) Just an overall poorly officiated game from what I could tell.

Stevie Johnson has indeed made some HUGE catches for the Cats this season. KUDOS to him for that, and may he continue to do so in the remaining games.

In regard to the team's play, yes, it will certainly need to play much better against its next opponents. YET, as some are saying, the officiating did negatively affect the Cats today.

Brooks has had a lot of time to get a defense that was even mediocre. This is the same gashme crap that I had hoped left with the last DC.

Our total lack of a pass rush was inexcusable. Watch the D-Line in the second half. 90% of the time they're just standing there stoned (pun unintentional - maybe).

Maybe we'll play better as the underdog, because we sure are fatheaded when we're not.

Hell, even Woodyard was playing stupid.

I fear this season of promise is going to end with a whimper ...

I think both games left are winnable, especially UT at home, but we better make some adjustments because what we have been doing lately will not cut it.

I would like to discuss some of your points & add a few of my own. . .

1. Agree wholeheartedly on the O-Line play, though it was improved in the second half.

2. There is nothing wrong with our schemes, it is simple recognition & adjustment from the players on the field. Coaches can X and O all day long, but players have to execute. Don't sleep on Vandy's defense. . . There are really no numbers that support a claim for Georgia's defense being appreciably better than Vandy's. I have to agree that we should go to Tamme more often. As for Burton -- we tried to force-feed him in the first half (on screens) and the result was 4 catches for -9 yards. I think we must get him vertical -- problem there is pass protection.

3. We don't really have good blitz personnel. People always act like blitzing is easy, but it takes a special type of linebacker or DB. We often times don't get pressure even when we do send extra guys.

4. Locke is getting plenty of ink, but Rafael had 70 yards rushing on 15 carries. . . I think the freshman benefitted from the cumulative effect of all those one yard losses and two yard gains everyone was groaning about in the first half. This is one of my main complaints about some of our fans -- they just don't understand that not every play is designed to go for a TD or first down. Some are created to set something else up, or to soften a defense.

5. Ashton Cobb is going to be dynamite. . . He is good, now, but I think he will be special. I am no longer concerned about the SS spot after Roger Williams leaves. Same goes for Harrison filling in for McClinton. . . Shows that our staff is doing a great job of continuing the building process for long-term success.

Excellent points, bret1555, especially those about the running game, point #4.:thumbup:.

Guys, one reason the defense was playing the way it was against Vandy is to try and contain a running QB. If all of our defensive front line would have rushed willy nilly to the backfield all the time Vandy's QB would still be running. I think this is one of the main reasons why we didn't look like we were playing as agressive. I think you'll get to see more pressure the next two games. Our defense is way better when were facing QBs that aren't runners too.
One note about Burton also; he was wide open a couple of times for TDs but Woodson under-through the ball. If Woodson starts passing better you'll see big games out of him again.
