Don't let this get us down. Two great upcoming games to win that are highly worthwhile to have standing on their own. GBB!
See you in Athens - Section 102.

If we win out, we would still tie for the SEC East championship, even though we wouldn't be in the conference championship game. That's not as much as we had hoped for, but it's something. It would be a tremendous boost to our football program, something we could build on in years to come.

Along with that, we have to look at this as a marathon, not a sprint. The season could end right now and we can honestly say it's been the most successful in years, but as Tom says, it's not over. We now have the pieces in place to keep building toward the goal of an SEC Championship, and after all the struggles we've had, a tie for the SEC East title would look and feel very nice.
We're not going to go from "famine to feast" in one season. Let's keep on keepin' on.

If we win out, we would end up in a 3-way tie for first with Florida and Georgia (4-way if UT beats Vandy next week). Florida will win all ties because of tiebreaker rule #2: "Records of the tied teams within the division". They lost only to Georgia in the East, everyone else will have lost 2 or more.
I agree - tying for first is a heck of a lot better than we've done recently! So why don't we just go and do it!

Being in a tie for first in the East also makes us a very attractive bowl participant given we'll need to beat UG and UT to have part of it. Therefore, I'll see you in Florida for New Year's. Go CATS!

IMO, this scenario and the BCS are what's wrong with college football.
Every other football league or division has a playoff system while NCAA Division 1 is business as usual. That's pretty great for the USC's, UF's and OSU's of the world don't you think?

OK, but I don't see where a BCS playoff helps this SEC East situation. You don't think they'd all get in playoff, do you?

You know, there is actually SOME TINY advantage for us in this scenario. For example, if we run the table we finish 9-3. That would get us a VERY nice Bowl game. But, if we run the table and finsih 9-3 and WIN the SEC East (which we cannot do, of course) we would likely be facing LSU again. And, whenever that sort of re-match happens, the team who won during the regular season is almost always at a sevre disdvantage. The point is, 9-3 probably gets a better Bowl than 9-4.

That would indeed be a tremendous boost to the program, Tom, and it is still possible.
Also, regardless, this special UK football team has already broken so many streaks this season. Another was broken yesterday when it guaranteed itself a winning season, accomplished for the first time in thirty years. We all know it can break still another streak in two weeks.
Right now, though, there's only one game on the schedule in the UK locker room. That game is the Georgia game, of course. :) GO CATS! BEAT THE BULLDOGS!
If we win out and then UF loses in the SEC Championship game I would think we would have an excellent shot at a BCS game, probably the Sugar. We would have 3 wins over top 10 teams including LSU who probably will be in the BCS Championship game. UF would have 4 losses and would be out, IMO. We would have just beaten UT and UGA so we would have to get the nod over them. No in the SEC West other than LSU would deserve a BCS bid. So we still have that to play for even if we can't win the SEC.

I think we would definitely deserve a BCS bid in that situation, but I doubt we would get it. . . There are too many one and two loss teams from power conferences.

OK, but I don't see where a BCS playoff helps this SEC East situation. You don't think they'd all get in playoff, do you?I wasn't advocating a SEC playoff. If you don't make the SEC 1-game playoff, you never get to win the SEC Championship or the Sears trophy or presumably even a BCS berth in a major bowl. With a NCAA playoff, the National Championship dream is still alive for say the top 16 BCS teams.

I must be the only guy in America who actually LIKES the bowl system. . . It preserves the unique nature of the College Football regular season. It also is good for more universities than a playoff would be.
Even if you go to a 8 or 16 team playoff. . . How do you decide who those teams are? You would simply replace one subjective system with another subjective system -- only the new one would claim "legitimacy." As an EKU alumn, I can tell you there have been years that I thought the Colonels deserved a spot in the I-AA playoffs and didn't get it.

Wow, I'm just happy we were in it for a while.
I never expected us to be talking SEC championship in football this year. Kudos to coach Brooks, his staff, and the team. What an amazing year, and its not even over yet!
