Well, the CATS really dropped in this poll. We are at No. 50 in the coaches poll. But many of figured this was going to happen after the loss on Wednesday. Hopefully the CATS have learned their lesson, and will buyin and trust in Billy.

holy crap. I thought we would drop , but #50?!?!? That is ridiculous and unacceptable for UK basketball.

Michigan dropped from 5 to 33 after their loss to Appalachian State..........

So we're 7th in the SEC based on this voting. That's what ugly home losses to no-name teams will do to you.
We'll be back.

When we win the next three we will be back to some respectable ranking. I am not surprised. Personally we might have been the 50th best team in the nation prior to practices this week.

but let's not get too bent out of shape about this. The 'Cats will be back.

Until I see a better performance than what I have seen thus far this season, I can't disagree with their opinion.

I agree. Hopefully Billy has them working their butts off. If our Seniors do not buy in to his system, we are in for a long season. Hopefully, Ramel and Joe have seen what happens when they do their own thing and not listen to the coach and run his system.

Do we know how the coaches voted? I see that we got 1 vote. My guess is Dave Odom.

CATS will probably not be ranked in the top 25 for a while. It will take an upset of UNC or Indiana to get some looks. I am sure the team will improve but I am not very confident on either of these games right now but my opinion could change after they get a few more games under their belt and hopefully show dramatic improvement.

Early season polls don't amount to anything anyway. How can you tell anything about any team after only a few games?

You can't really tell anything about a team after only four games and two that count. However losing soundly to a team like Gardner Webb on your home court is no way to make friends or influence people.

But that's the point really. The early season polls are basically just a popularity contest not any gage on how good a team is or isn't. If we had beaten Gardner Webb, we might have moved up a spot or two in the rankings, but we would have been the same team, with the same troubles as the one that is now ranked #50.

This is true but I think the whole point these days is to be "popular" in the Media. They can be your best friend or your worst enemy.
That's essentially what it all boils down too.
To take a quote from Gladiator...
"Win the crowd (Media) and then you will win your freedom (respect)"

I think it's like the old saying goes"we are first going to have to be broke down to be built up". This is a Kentucky team with a lot of potential, but to access that potential some of the key players are going to have to learn something in a short amount of time, that is totally opposite of what they have been taught for 3 years. Some people accept change better than others. I am going to say this from the realistic side of my brain,I don't think we are going to have a very good year (record wise)but I think this team learns from this tough season and comes back next year TREMENDOUSLY better. Now I'm going to speak from the blue side of my brain, I could possibly see this team "get it" all of the sudden and just turn on(which is what I hope will happen) With injuries and new talent, anything can happen. Well that's my Dennis Miller rant for the morning. Thanks for listening. Oh yea, as far as the polls go, ask me in march, lol.
GO BIG BLUE
If we aren't there.......WE WILL BE...WE ARE KENTUCKY!!!!!!!

we are not ranked #50.
after the top 25, all you get from the poll is how many people think you're not "top 25 material". it doesn't mean anyone thinks we're #50, it could mean that all but one of them thinks we're around, say....30. and that's the good part. there's still at least one voter who thinks we're top 25.
so really, to say that we're #50 and that's "unacceptable" at UK and all that proud talk is really just a disservice to our boys. they don't need to be treated as if they're worse than they are.

As it's a ranking by number of votes received, we're tied for 30 or 40 something.
Not much consolation or different than 50.
SOME GUY liked us enough to give us a vote, however. :icon_lol::thumbup:
That said, TWO games into the season is not worth sweatin' rankings over.
I don't care WHAT we're ranked in March, so long as we're dancin'. G gets a few years to get his system and first crop of recruits in place will make a noticeable difference.
