View Full Version : Bulldogs not likely to overlook UK this time

More than a year after the University of Kentucky mounted a fourth-quarter comeback to stun Southeastern Conference power Georgia, the Wildcats remembered the monumental win like it was a week ago.
Senior center Eric Scott, of Woodstock, Ga., chewed off all of his nails as he sat in total shock watching the defense preserve UK's 24-20 victory at Commonwealth Stadium on Nov. 4, 2006.
As fans charged the field to tear down a goalpost and celebrate, senior tight end Jacob Tamme stood sobbing for 15 minutes.
At the time, the victory was the most significant SEC triumph under head coach Rich Brooks who is in his fifth season at UK and it was the team's first victory against Georgia since 1996.

So we won last year because GA overlooked us? How kind of them.

Whether or not Georgia is motivated by revenge, it's my considered opinion that the game will hinge on UK's motivation. After that miserable game vs. Miss State, I am in serious question of their heart. If it's present for the game then the Bulldogs are toast. If it's absent then the Dawgs roll.
May the Cats have heart in Athens. Go Big Blue!
I just don't get how anyone could question the heart of this team.

I don't think Georgia overlooked Kentucky last year. I think Kentucky took the field and played smarter and harder, hit harder, made plays and earned the win.
I wonder if next year this same guy will claim that UK's 3 OT win over LSU was because the Tigers overlooked UK. (I don't think that happened, either.)

I am in serious question of their heart. They were trying against Vandy, just a bit out of sync. They were trying against MSU, but were missing play makers. They were trying against USC, just the rain and play style doesn't go very well and Andre was impatient. Didn't get to Tebow's shoulder early enough and he's dominant with a dominant OL. Gotta knock a guy like that out like they did McFadden and Felix. Heart?!? I don't think so.
I like to hear that the practices are going full speed, that should help with the timing.

Perhaps we have a semantic difference. To me, playing with heart is giving your best even against a lesser opponent. MSU was a lesser opponent and the Cats played down to their level. Vandy was a lesser opponent. USC was a lesser opponent, it's now obvious. The Cats have exhibited amazing heart against the big boys of the SEC and the four clearly over-matched mid-majors on their schedule this year. Against the middle of the pact, not so much. It's these guys that are ready for you to overlook them. UK did and paid the high price. The Cats have only lost one game this year. They gave away two because their hearts weren't in the battle. These Cats are of MNC caliber. Georgia will find that out this week-end.

There is still another example of how special these seniors are, folks. As Jacob said, he is considered a "tough" guy. Yet, that is how he reacted because he had SO BADLY wanted the Cats to pull off such a victory. God bless Jacab and the rest of these Cats. They are SO SPECIAL.
How anyone can question their heart is beyond me. :icon_sad: Yes, they did show they were mere HUMANS against MSU. The players who were able to play were physically and emotionally beaten up, and it showed. Their heart and character have been revealed game after game, though, especially with the numerous fourth-quarter comebacks. I feel sure few fans doubt their heart or character.
By the way, as I and others have stated, the Cats played HARD against South Carolina. They definitely showed up ready to play. A couple of Cats were possibly trying too hard that game. The four turnovers, two of which led directly to scores, simply killed us. There was NO lack of heart.
I love this team. I love the players' heart. Jacob showed his "heart" after the Georgia game last season. KUDOS to him and all the players who CARE so much about winning games as Cats. Good luck to the Cats in Athens!!!:)

We were certainly mistake prone vs. MSU & SC. I don't know if that's not playing with heart or something else. I would say not mentally zeroed-in or fatigued or not focused or something along those lines. Probably wouldn't use heart, but I think I get what you're trying to say & I'm not going to get bent over your choice of terms.
I think we played a pretty good game vs. Vandy & the score would have tilted considerably more in our favor without some bizarro calls. Net, I'm quite hopeful for a win Saturday.

Good points, gerntz. Also, though, I continue to differentiate between those two losses. Only two players were making those costly mistakes the SC game (and, no, I am not blaming them for the loss, for the effort was definitely there from both of them, with the two contributing a lot of positives, AND, further, better execution from the entire team STILL could have brought about a victory). One had had similar miscues when he had returned home two seasons earlier, and the other seemed to be pressuring himself to lead the team in an outstanding way, as he had repeatedly spoken to the national media about proving that we belonged in the top ten. That's just what my feminine intuition tells me, of course. :)
Regardless, several of us on the thread have reacted strongly to the questioning of the players' HEART. You are probably right that the semantics are the problem. :) Too, I certainly did not mean my post to be at all personal toward the poster, and I apologize if it came across that way. I just meant to be standing up for these young men, for they are truly a special group. :)

Well, we're sounding more like fans of an upper echelon SEC team! Arguing over semantics. Sounds like UGA fans. In light of this very desirable evolution, I'll be more pc when I say, I hope the Cats show more "zeal" tomorrow than they did against MSU.:p
I too apologize for any misunderstanding over this issue. I was just very deeply disappointed by that loss.
