Texas Tech coach Mike Leach was fined $10,000 for criticizing refs in the game against Texas, including one who is from Austin:

Oregon State's AD took a Pac 10 crew to task:

How much is appropriate in terms of coaches or ADs addressing officiating?

Does the criticism undermine the sport, or does an immunity to criticism foster less accurate officiating?

Last question first, both. But what if the sport freakin' deserves it? 23 in a row in a competitive contest? The BURNED image of the ball being deformed by the ground in my binoculars only to be called a freakin' interception? The burned image of UK jerseys being pulled almost off and no flag?

In another thread someone made the comment, "and some wise guys wanted to Ditch Mitch and Rich". I opined once on the radio, "The only coach I want to replace Brooks is one who will announce, on the day of his hire, that he will give more of his salary to referees."

How appropriate is it? VERY! EXTREMELY! If the refs or the league wish to take on a coach they should put up a youtube video of how their calls were fair with support and damage the effectiveness of the criticism. Bobby Gaston SHOULD roll around in his grave.
