Athens —- On the surface, it may seem as if Mark Richt was just having fun when he called for a "redout" at Saturday's home game against Kentucky. But deep down, the Bulldogs coach clearly has some concerns about an emotional letdown in the wake of this past weekend's victory over Auburn.
Georgia wore black jerseys and UGA fans dressed in black in answer to Richt's call for a "blackout" for the nationally televised game against Auburn. The No. 8-ranked Bulldogs seemed highly energized and rolled to a 45-20 victory.

Conversely, Saturday the Bulldogs play a nontraditional rival in Kentucky in a 12:30 p.m. game. That means the "Dawg Walk" will be at 10:45 a.m.
"I know that sounds early for the Bulldog Nation, but I think we saw last weekend what can happen when everybody gets together and does it right," Richt said.
What the Kentucky game lacks in tradition it makes up for in meaning. A Georgia win would clinch a tie for the SEC East championship.
"So we've decided to have a redout," Richt said during his weekly news conference Tuesday. "Everybody wear red. I think they'd do that anyway, but it'd be nice if everybody did that Saturday. It'd be nice if everybody got jacked up about wearing red. Maybe we'll wear black in our pregame warmup and come rushing out of the wearing red. Whatever it takes to get everybody excited, let's do it."
Georgia's players don't seem too concerned. They say championship pursuits, Senior Day and last year's 24-20 loss in Lexington should be incentive enough.
"There's plenty on the line," quarterback Matthew Stafford (http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/printedition/2007/11/14/gareport1114.html#) said. "This team beat us last year; they beat the No. 1 team in the country [LSU] this year; it's our last SEC game this season. This game is big for us. There's a ton on the line."

Seems a little silly, shouldn't every game for a home team be a "blue out", "red out", etc..

Not silly if the coach wants a desired effect, as with the "black out" against Auburn.

Red would contrast much more with any blue clad fans in the stadium.

I agree BourbonTown. Red is their normal gameday color. UGA is coming off two emotional games the last 2 weeks where something special was planned, i.e. the celebration penalty against UF and the black out against AU. I think the coach is trying to keep his team focused by calling it a red out, but UGA may very well be emotionally where we were when we played MSU!

Richt has gotten a lot of mileage out of pyschological ploys the past two weeks. Sounds like he's going for three in a row.

No doubt.

I can't imagine any coach going to such extremes.

Well, you know...it appears to be working for him. This team will be super fired up, and we'd better be ready to play some football.

An effort like the Vandy game will be a recipe for disaster for our Cats. I want the fire back in these boys that's been missing for a few games now!

If they do Brooks should have one of his backup guys ready to go in a start a fight. The SEC rule states that any player leving the bench during a fight is disqualified. They'd all be thrown out. We win.

Wildcat fans who doubt the effect of the crowd on a team should pay special attention to the UK-UGA game this Saturday; and then compare the UK-MSU game to it. Observe and learn from one of the two best football fan bases in the SEC (LSU's being the other). We'll never get into the upper echelon without the fans (and a football band!).

Oh, I don't doubt it, and I agree.

I was just curious as to the hubbub over Richt requesting such to start with.:)

We win. :thumbup:That's a hockey team tactic. I actually went to one of those games. It lasted all of 4 minutes and because of the "sit out the next game too" rule the CoolCats chalked up two wins.
