I dont know if you remember but his sight has had many problems with inside info. Do you not remember a couple of months ago when he said that Scotty Hopson was on UK's campus inquiring about coming to the cats and then his parents called him out about it. He also had inside info about Billy Donavon, Jai Lucas and countless other stories that never panned out. I dont go to the sight anymore not telling you not to just saying I dont have confidence in the info on the page.

Back to Leonard Washington, just a couple of questions:
Assuming he is eligible,
When could he start practice?
What kind of condition is he in?
What was the major snafu in his eligibility?

From the stuff I've read about Scotty's parents, that first one could be true :) but yeah the rest he pulled out of his ....... yeah his back pocket.

I know some people on here don't care, but i just read an update on that same site. Maggard reports that a conversation with LW and a coach for Kentucky was had sometime tonight. He reports that we could hear something as soon as tomorrow. Wow!!! We could use this guy. Lets hope its not another dud get your hopes up story.

One site says 6'6 200 and another says 6'6 225...which is it? Big body? I dont know...with the attrition due to injuries he cant hurt us...his high school coach said it was "60/40" whether he'd get his academics situation in order and that LSU had dropped out (deciding to go in a different direction) and that Ole Miss and Kentucky were the leaders

Matt Jones is reporting the same info based on emails he received from several sources including MM.

From the pictures on Rivals, to me he looks in the 225 range. "Not that I've worked at a carnival or anything. :)"

Yeah, he looks pretty thick. I like some of the earlier videos I saw of him (can't find them now) where it looked like he didn't care to bang down low with the ball in his hands. I sounds good that his people contacted UK about him being eligible. Would be great to see him come to UK.

this is all you need to know. the kid was once considered top 20. proof here:
http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?SID=910&Year=2003&ra_key=1017
he dropped in the rankings due to grades and an attitude problem. the kid can help us out THIS YEAR. which makes our team even better next year. he probably won't come in and start. he won't dominate anything. but, it would sure be nice to have him on the roster in case patterson gets two quick fouls.

I would love help but i certainly dont want an attitude problem. Maybe hes turned over a new leaf but the way coach g pushes them, if he has a problem it wont take long to show up.

I've read it explained that he's just had some bad advice along the way. I've also read that he has sort of the same type attitude as Magloire did, on the court. Sort of the, you will not dunk on me attitude. If Gillispie can channel Leonard's intensity to coincide with his athleticism on the court, he could be very, very beneficial to us THIS year. It sounds like he would start soon, if he gets it done in practice. He could compliment Patrick very well, given the situation and our options.
It also sounds like it could be great for Leonard, on a personal level, which is an often overlooked aspect of the relationship.

Bring him on, we need the help inside. Especially if he bang inside and bring a little more physical presence to the team.
Looks like he may be skilled and physically developed, but a little small for an inside player. This would be a good change for us. We have been getting just the opposite over the last few years, 7 footers with no skill.

Definitely. I would worry a little about his conditioning, but Marc Maggard says he'll get in shape quick, lol. I hope that's a reflection of his work ethic and intensity. We need somebody to get in there and work. Leonard sounds like he will do just that, and have great skills as well. If he was 6'-8" or 9", everyone would want him from what I've read and seen in his videos.
I wanted him earlier, and still do. Patrick needs help now, not later. I'd liked to have had Singleton, but it may all work out in the short term after all. I have no doubts about the long term. Coach will get it done one way or the other.
Come on over Leonard :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

So how would this affect our scholarship situation...would this push Derek Jasper closer to a redshirt year?
KYISSUPREME

Take him if he wants to come. Yes, there are some things to be concerned with. His attitude and grades have often come into question. The grades he has finally gotten under control, I suppose. The attitude, I'm willing to bet, is something Coach can handle and will probably use it to get more out of Washington. He has broken no laws, that we know of. He hasn't been arrested for illegal substances, or any of these other things we have heard with some kids recently. Give the guy a chance. We certainly need somebody in the middle besides Patterson who doesn't mind to mix it up a little. Whatever Coach wants to do is fine by me. That's why he gets paid the big bucks.

I think we have an open scholarship for this season, IIRC. But Coldstream would know more on that one than I. Also, I remember reading something on here about possible transfers at the Christmas break. I don't remember who said it, or who they were talking about. So take that one for what it's worth, but I don't think the schollie situation is the hold up.:shrug1:

Right now, UK does not have an open scholorship to offer to LW. Coury was given the one that was open. Someone would have to give their's up or someone would have to transfer to make a ride open for LW.

Maggard just posted his stuff. Said Washington is not cleared just yet. His people accidentally jumped the gun, and he is still not cleared to play yet. There is no known timeline for when he will be allowed to play. So it might be tomorrow, might be much longer....no telling.
I think he'll come here if he's offered and if he's cleared in time. I don't know if he's been formally offered by Coach yet, due to the eligibility issues. I want him here, maybe more than I wanted Singleton.
Maggard explains this situation very well, and if you are a member there, you should go read it.

He explained it well? Maybe if you are a 3rd grader! It's obvious that MM is just making up the story as he goes along. He has no inside connections and never has. His lemmings over there are thanking him for telling them nothing.
MM was the one that reported that LW was cleared to play. maybe he did get the info from the family, but, an "insider" like him should have been able to get the info from one of the many colleges that he claims to scout for. Of course, if any of that were true, he would be able to get the info.
What MM is going to di is get UK in trouble by phoning recruits claiming that he has connections to UK.
The guy knows nothing about basketball, he has no connections to UK or any other school. He makes his living selling reverse mortgages to unsuspecting seniors. Is that who you want to get recruiting info from?

Well any info is good info to me. I just like to hear that things are happening. But apparently you are best friends with the guy to know all these things about him. He also posts here sometimes and I don't really think he would like to hear these things. If you don't agree with the guy just don't comment. You don't have to be extremely rude to him and about him.

If the facts are rude in your opinion, then they will just have to be rude.
MM just called in to BCG's radio show. It was obvious that coach didn't know him and then MM went on some stupid tangent about mind games.
You want to defend the loser, go right ahead. I have spoken directly to him just as I post here. He doesn't want to challenge me on the truth about himself.

If you don't know anything about how the clearinghouse stuff works (I don't), then it was pretty insightful. I like little insights as to what might happen on the recruiting front, now that there is much more excitement there. I probably pay a little too much attention to it sometimes, but I really would like have a big (or bigger guy) for this team. Washington sounds like a great pick-up. And that's why I read Maggard's stuff.
I don't know anything else about him, and am not really interested in it. I didn't get to catch him on the radio show tonight.

Where have you guys been hearing that Coury is on any kind of scholarship? I have seen no mention of this, and he is still officially listed as a walk-on. Not saying he isn't, just have seen no sign of it. The open scholly, I believe, is the one we tried to use on Lucas last year, and Singleton this year. The two that will be vacated by Crawford and Bradley have been filled by Liggins and Miller. Coldstream, can you shed any light on any of this?
