Wow. That collection of dunks by Kemp the elder is amazing.

One great thing about signing him would be that he has a lot of brothers.
I must not know the jokes you guys are talking about.

For those that do not seem to know, dad Shawn Kemp was a UK signee and spent several weeks (?) on campus before leaving school. Although I am not sure it was ever made "public", evidently dad Shawn "borrowed" Sean Sutton's SEC Championship ring (or something similar) and took it to the local pawn shop for cash.
Soon thereafter, Mr. Kemp left campus--on to a pretty good professional carreer. Had he been able to stay clean, he woul have, easily, in my opinion, been one of the best UK players in school history.
Anyway, that is the gist of the stroy for those too young to remember.

I always heard it was a gold necklace.
Cawood said something to the effect of "I don't who the best player to have played at Kentucky is, but I know who the best to have never played here is..." Obviously referring to Kemp. We would've had such a loaded roster that it wasn't even right (which in fact it wasn't). I'd have to say that team would have been at least comparable to '96 on paper, maybe better.

Shortly after Kemp signed with Kentucky, a hoosier friend of mine:ptold me that he would never play for U.K.; that he was trouble and would never last. At the time, I thought it was just "sour grapes" on his part because we got him and they didn't. Turns out, he was absolutely correct and it didn't take long to come true.
After that, if he told me anything else about recruits or players, I took it to heart. He always seemed to be very knowledgeable about that stuff, after I started paying attention to what he said!
Well if the kid has talent thats all that matters. Taking shots at his family for probs from a decade ago is CHEAP. And I'm 1 of 5 does that make me weird? After reading up on him I don't think any of this is funny......

It's not a cheap shot; nor was it funny; it was facts; it happened.
On that note.......what his father did while he was here should have no bearing on this kid at all.

The joke about Shawn Kemp and father's day is that he has about 50 children with 49 different women. That's the joke.

Maybe a little off topic but...Mashburn might have soemthing to say about Kemp being the best ever if he had attended. In my opinion..Mashburn had a pretty good pro career too. NBA all star more than once if im thinking correctly.

As if it matters, I meant no disprespect to the young man. I was just trying to provide some gentle insight about what the "inside" story was that some of our younger posters knew nothing about.
Lighten up--if the kid can play and make the grades and stay out of trouble, he is welcome here regardless of what his Dad did or did not do---can you say Kelenna Azibuke?

its all in fun geesh...I think if we were talking about Travis Henry rather than the father of a potential player some of these tunes might be different.

Probably better. Again, on paper.

Shoot I hold no grudges against Shawn nor ever wished him anything other than well. I followed his career at Seattle and beyond. He was a Cat to me and I hated what happened back then. All the stuff being said is true but it doesn't diminish the fact that we all liked him and wanted him to be a Cat. If his son chooses to come here he will be treated like family too. I would say young Kemp knows all about daddy's exploits when he was younger. We didn't do those things he did. For what it is worth ole Sean didn't want it to come out what Shawn did but somebody leaked it, the press got it and had a field day with it, and the rest is history.
