I understand that he got shot in the leg. Exactly how did that cause brain injury? Was it a blood clot that moved up or how exactly did it happen? I was a big fan of his and have been since he played at Miami. I hate to hear this sad news and my prayers go to him, his friends, and his family.

Severe blood loss caused lack of oxygen to get to the brain, or something like that.
After reports that he was responsive and had opened his eyes late last night, I thought he was going to be okay...
RIP Sean.
I never heard of him opening his eyes, but squeezing a nurses hand. The loss of blood and the damage to several arteries eventually put him into a state of unconsciousness. From there they had no response throughout the late hours of the night, and at 5:30am this morning, his father announced his passing.
I'm a Cowboy fan, I dislike the redskins but I always had a certain amount of respect for Sean Taylor. I liked him at Miami and always considered him of the best DB's I've ever seen play.
R.I.P Sean, You will be missed

A sad day for the NFL and a sad day for society as a whole. I am just thankful his family was not killed or injured.

This is such a bummer....Sean was one of my favorite players in the NFL he was such a great talent...he was a safety in a linebackers body. Rest in peace.

The Redskins honored slain safety Sean Taylor with a moving pregame tribute featuring a video presentation that surely touched all who saw it.
"Sean Taylor, a loving father, a good son, a great friend and teammate and an All-Pro football player is no longer with us. But his spirit, his incredible energy and the way he played every down as if it were his last is with us. His spirit is here today. Look around. See for yourself. It's difficult to put into words how we loved and felt about this man. Sean was an instant fan favorite from his first day with the team and undoubtedly will live on forever in the memories of those who had the privilege to watch him play." -- FedEx Field public-address announcer
The video began with an image of Taylor, in uniform but without helmet, holding up his left arm triumphantly. Down on the field, the Redskins' band played a somber tune while stadium personnel slowly inflated the giant Redskins helmet for players to run through. The teams were in their locker rooms. Fans held #21 towels above their heads. Taylor's image remained on the board as the band transitioned to an appropriately understated rendition of "Hail to the Redskins."
The video showed Taylor playing at the high school and college levels, dominant as ever. Then came the most riveting portion of the tribute, a shot of Taylor himself cheerfully answering questions about what playing for the Redskins meant to him. "My favorite part is when we get home games and the fans are cheering and we have the 12th man," Taylor said. "That is my favorite part of playing for the Redskins."
You didn't need to be a Redskins fan to experience goose-bumps at that moment. It was powerful, moving stuff. Then the video showed a photo of Taylor holding his young daughter. More goose bumps. "The only way we can honor him right now is to go out on that field and play football," the video showed a teammate saying.
