I really am liking this book "Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life" he is a craftsman with the written word even if you never found his stand up funny (I loved his routine) you will like this book.

Thanks for the info. I have always liked him, especially that he did funny routines without getting vulgar or political. But, I love him the most in his character roles. I loved My Blue Heaven and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
I think I'll have to buy this book.

Although he DID have a relatively clean act, among my favorite movie scenes:

You can start by wiping that effing smile off of your effing face and get me an effing car.

Does he go into into depth about the wild times with Belushi and the rest of the SNL classic players?

Not sure only half way through the book.

Friend of mine worked on a movie with Steve Martin. She said he was a serious, quiet, hard working fellow. You don't get much accomplished not being sober. My bet is, even were he invited, he would not have gone as overboard as Belushi habitually did where drugs and alcohol are concerned. Just a guess.

In th book he relates that he smoked a little pot but, quit in 1968 never to do any illegal drug again. Homey I bet you'd like this book really well written.
