Quarterback André Woodson (Radcliff, Ky.), one of the Southeastern Conference’s most prolific all-time passers, commanded two of the top University of Kentucky football team awards for the 2007 season, Coach Rich Brooks announced Wednesday.

Woodson, who is leading the SEC in passing for the second straight year, was voted the Wildcats’ most valuable player in balloting of the Kentucky team members, one of two awards elected by the players. He also was selected by his coaches as the year’s most valuable offensive player.

Woodson has thrown for 3,351 yards and a league-high 36 touchdowns in spearheading the Wildcats’ second consecutive 7-5 regular-season campaign. He became one of eight SEC quarterbacks to throw at least 75 career touchdown passes and just one of 12 to account for more than 9,000 yards through the air.

Andre’s 36 scoring throws in 2007 is bettered only by Kentucky’s Tim Couch with 37 in 1997 and Danny Wueffel of Florida, who connected on 39 during the 1996 season. Woodson is three touchdown passes shy of the UK career record of 78 by Jared Lorenzen in 2000-03. He also only trails Lorenzen in career passing yardage as well.

Man, I am really going to miss Woodson in a Kentucky uniform. I remember in 2004 the first game of the season when we played Lousiville, Shane Boyd was our QB. Woodson came in off of the bench for some playing time as a freshmen, and the whole time I watched him I always thought he would be special. I told all of my friends that he would be a household name before he graduated. Of course they all thought I was crazy. His sophomore year was a challenge not only for Woodson, but for our team and us fans. People started questioning Woodson, and started wanting Pulley to take over as QB. I never stopped believing in Woodson and he made everybody that didn't believe in him believers his junior year. He took over this team and lead us to a bowl win. This year, he has proven that last year was no fluke and that he is the real deal. He has done probably one of the biggest turnarounds of a player that I have ever seen. He has been my favorite QB and my favorite UK player ever. I thank him for what he and all of the other seniors have done for our program. Their will never be another senior class like them.

Congratulations to all the winners. :)

I only wish there had somehow been awards for Keenan Burton and Rafael Little to win, though. :icon_sad: Both players' numbers suffered because of their injuries. Regardless, both were still a huge part of the team's success AND were such fine leaders, guys who chose to come back this season to lead their team to still more outstanding accomplishments.

Keenan and Rafael have been too special throughout their UK careers, both as football players and as human beings, to be left out. I hereby give both young men Senior Leadership awards. :icon_biggrin:
