Looks like somebody finally beat the NCAA. So far at least.

Alabama juries are notorious for being pro-plaintiff.

Wow, David vs. Goliath, all right.
I'm not sure about how I feel towards the judgement, although if it's only about defamation of character, I agree that the NCAA should be accountable. IMO, Claude Bassett tried to sue for basically the same reasons, only he went after UK, and had the charges dismissed (twice).

Everybody now views the NCAA as the all too-powerful Big Brother in college sports, and with good reason. They seem to clamp down harder every year. Now we fans have to watch what we say about recruits on internet message boards, or we can actually get our beloved school in trouble. However, I think that the NCAA is mostly a good thing in college sports, because they are trying to keep athletics a school-associated thing, and trying to resist the drive to turn college players into semi-pro players. I am all for this - I think college players, no matter how good, should be students who are not paid, and are required to attend the school and make a minimum grade-point average, without getting perks. It seems that players and schools keep trying to sidestep those simple things, so the NCAA has become the bad cop.

however, slander is another thing entirely, and the NCAA needs to know they can't treat everyone like a student to be disciplined.
