I personally think Bobby Johnson has done the most for Vanderbilt football as anyone has in a long, long time. He has his share of upsets, and his teams have ended losing streaks (while we haven't). So....do you think Vanderbilt fans are judging him by his W-L record, or by progress? After all, they are still below .500, and not going bowling. IMO, beating Vanderbilt has not been a "given" in quite some time, and our victory down in Nashville was nothing to sneeze at - this is a team that had UT down at home, 24-9, at one point.

Vandy should keep him... I know that. Hope they don't :)

By the same token they have absolutely blown games under his watch that would have gotten them a bowl. He took Jay Cutler and lost to a 3-9 UK team AND MTSU in the same year where a win in just one of them would have gotten them a bowl.

Johnson has been somewhat of an enigma. He has led Vandy to some mind-boggling wins -- at UT, at USC -- should have won at UF a couple of years ago. But, as noted, at the same time he has been unable to get them to a bowl due to some puzzling losses. Still, on balance, I think he has done a good job.

I am a big Bobby Johnson fan. I have been a fan of his since Furman. I think he runs a good, clean program. You can clearly see the quality of the players increasing at Vanderbilt.

To be fair, think if he actually had an athletic department to work with him:
Frankly, that's a little scary.
Here's another trivia question for you:
What coach has won two NFL championships and also coached at Vandy?
It's 8:32 now. I'll give you 5 minutes, 'cause you can look it up.

Bobby Johnson is enjoying some success at a school where I would say, yes, itīs impossible to win year-in, year-out. Itīs only a matter of time before Vandy goes to a bowl, if he sticks around.

IMO, Bobby J. has done a tremendous job and is a GREAT, GREAT coach. You cannot begin to imagine the hurdles he has to overcome at Vandy and it is a program that is currently impossible to win year in year out. He is upgrading the talent there, but most of the players that go there are considering Vandy or regional I-AA schools or maybe SunBelt schools like Middle Tennesseee, but they also must be very good students
Also they have horrible facilities that are not even close to being competitive on an SEC level.
They also have horrible fan support and a differnet kind of fanbase than all other SEC schools. Can you imagine, even if it is raining and you are playing a directional Michigan school ( eastern/Western/central) in the rain, only getting 5,000 fans out to a home game? This has happened a couple times in tha last few years.
He took a huge gamble coming from Furman because they were dominant every year, perrenial Top 5/Top 10 I-AA program with a chance to win the National Championship every year. I hope it works out for him.

I think there is still some structure to the department. Can anyone here clarify what that structure is?
