Sources are saying Miles will be the next coach at Michigan.

If this turns out to be true, so much for Michigan's agreement to wait until after the SEC championship game to meet with him (not that I'm surprised, mind you..).

:icon_rolleyes:...Not surprising.

Wonder how the players feel. Hope Miles gets booed. He should have had the respect and dignity to wait until after the SEC championship game.

I honestly think Michigan will regret this hire. I don't think Miles is that good. Actually he has done an average coaching job at LSU. With the talent he had, about any good coach would have the same or better record at LSU over the past 2 years. The way the national media is acting, Miles is the second coming of Bear Bryant or Schembechler, but, he has won NOTHING at LSU. No SEC championship, no NC......zilch.
I don't get it with Miles.....

You said no SEC championship. Prior to this hire, I would have said he's about to get one. Now, I'm not quite so sure. I do think they'll beat UT though.

Mama called and needed his help. You always answer Mama when she needs help and Michigan needed his help.

RP, fwiw I don't blame him. I just blame his timing.
He still has a commitment to his team. He was supposed to wait, and didn't. I just don't think that's very respectful to his guys or LSU.

Les Miles has underachieved.. arguably he has had more talent than anyone in the country the last two years and has under achieved each year... the achievements he has had, has been off the back of saban's players...i don't like his personality either.

Same scenario as good ole' John L. at loserville; he just couldn't wait either; ruined their bowl game for the team and the fans; same thing will probably happen for LSU. Some of this fault rests with espn; they did not have to break it until after the game; I don't like media people for this reason; the only people they are concerned about are themselves, usually.

I got no dog in this fight - but it's Michigan that's making the announcement, not Les Miles. I don't care if he stays at LSU or goes to coach Outer Mongolia Tech - but we'd all have to be crazy if we thought every coach in the game doesn't interview for their next job before leaving their current job. Gosh, I know in my profession that's the way I've always done it.

But...at any rate... the onus is on Michigan for the announcement, in my opinion, not Les Miles

LSU coach Les Miles will meet with the media at the Georgia Dome before the SEC Championship Game to announce that he is staying at LSU, a source told ESPN.com.

LSU associate athletic director Herb Vincent said Saturday morning that ESPN reports that Miles had accepted the head coaching position at Michigan were "inaccurate." Miles agreed to a contract extension Saturday with LSU.

Maybe we should wait until we know the facts before assembling the firing squad.

Who knows then.

Great post Los Gatos. Most sports fans are like an old west lynch mob. Give them something, anything and they'll take it and run with it.

That I can understand and agree with.

One thing that I do know is that ESPN might want to consider their sources a little more closely.

ESPN just mentioned that he was indeed staying, and now they're covering their rears, lol.

Probably more of the cheating culture at UT spreading false rumors to throw the game into turmoil.

A source not close to the situation just annouced that Les Miles has been getting advice from Billy Donovan and Nick Saban about what to do, neither have made up their mind yet.

But Miles never said anything either way until today...so you can't really compare him to either of those two

Kirk Herbstreit is an idiot. He wanted so badly to be the first to break the story that someone set him up with just what he wanted to hear. Talk about looking like an fool.

Maybe next time he'll look for a second source?

Actually Herbstreit is usually dead on, he is very intelligent when it comes to college football. Wow...he actually may have made a mistake and now he's an idiot. Good to know we have such perfect people here.

Anyone that puts their reputation out there like that, without a second, confirmed source embarasses himself and his network. It's that simple.

No way Michigan waits that long to fill the vacancy. That would leave less than one month until signing day.

As a Michigan football fan (after the Cats), I hope Miles stays right where he is. I'm not impressed with him, and I just don't like him, comes off as a real jerk, come to think of it, a lot of football coaches come of as real jerks.
But not Rich Brooks, or Lloyd Carr....maybe Joe Pa.

I love Les Miles, he's supremely confident in his squad and shows his obvious disappointment when they lose. They're going to smoke Ohio state if that's how it turns out.

I honestly dont think that Les Miles is that great of a coach, but will still jump ship and go to Michigan. He has said a hundred of times now that he will be back next year..If you think about it, next year just means the Bowl Game, that is in 2008.

I agree. He's probably gone. Nothing he's said can't be undone to leave...and he still wouldn't look quite like Saban. He was very careful in what he said.
