Defensive coordinator Mike Cassidy fired
Offensive Coordinator Charlie Stubbs resigns
Jeff Brohm is the new offensive coordinator
Well they needed a change in the defensive system. Kragthorpe wants to run the 3-3-5 next year. Whos gonna be the new d-coordinator?

I can understand canning Mike Cassity after the constant breakdowns this year.
Charlie Stubbs, I'm surprised was fired - he has a good history prior to being at UL and the offense wasn't awful this year, considering it was his first season.
Axing both coordinators after the first season is risky - it lessens the chances that things settle down for next year; instead, now transition and adjustment continues.
I think this also begs the question: if the real problem this year was problems with problem players, then why are the two coordinators being fired?
I am frankly surprised by these dual dismissals and I'm not sure that they, as a package, are for the better.
The CJ article says Stubbs left to pursue other opportunities. Perhaps he left of his own volition, wanting to be someplace else?

:icon_question:Wasn't Cassity the defensive coordinator last year?

He was co-defensive coordinator. The real guy went to ATL with Pitrinocio. Cassity got fired from ILL a few years ago, he was the DC there too.

Actually, I think Kragthorpe did what Jackie Sherrill did at Mississippi State: fire a bunch of assistants to try to save his own skin and frame them for the team's failures.

Why does Tubby have to enter into this discussion?

I don't think that Kragethorpe's job was on the line... :shrug1:

This cracks me up. It hasn't been that long ago that some of the more astute UK fb fans were wanting to fire coach Brooks and replace him with Cassidy.

Isn't this sort of the same thing Rich Brooks did? Only difference being Kragthorpe did it a lot sooner.

If you're referring to the Ron Hudson situation, it's my understanding that Mitch forced coach Brooks to get rid of Hudson. I truly believe if Hudson had not resigned, coach Brooks was prepared to leave to keep from having to fire him.

I was referring to Brooks eventually getting rid of his original offensive and defensive coordinators after neither worked out all that great.

Hudson was the OC. I feel both he and Archer should have been let go. I feel anyone that's not getting the job done should be let go. The point I was trying to make, with my original post, was that some people were so high on Cassidy, when U of L was kicking our fannies, that they were wanting him to replace coach Brooks and now he's not good enough to be the DC at a floundering U of L.

I know. I just sort of wonder if we would be further along if Brooks had done like Kragthorpe and gotten rid of Archer and Hudson sooner. Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference. But then again, maybe it would have...

Matt, I too remember the Cassity talk, although I thought most of the talk was to hire Cass for Archer.

That's the way I remember it, too.
Cassity's record at Illinois wasn't very good.............

According to one of the papers yesterday (can't remember which one), he was the co-defensive coordinator LAST year but had the title himself the two years before that.

Personally, I don't think so. Comparing the level and depth of talent the current co-ordinators have to work with vs Archer and Hudson, we're talking apples and oranges.

Just get ready Cat fans... We have 9 months to hear from the UL fans how it's unfair they will have to play UK the first game with new coordinators.
