That was one of the accusations that came out of Vitale's mouth on Saturday. First I've ever heard that. Never seen anything on the internet about that happening from either Tubbyphiles or Tubbyphobes. Did it really happen, or does Vitale have UK confused with "Friday Night Lights?"

Vitale is a motor mouth. I am like you, never heard of anyone putting a for sale in Coach Smith's yard. That is Vitale talking smack that probably did not happen. He is a master at stating junk with no back up because no one ever questions him on anything he says.

These are about the only things I've seen thus far. I'm sure there's more, but they don't really point definitively to absolute proof - but that won't happen unless Tubby or someone from UK said so themselves.

I'd heard about that several times during our off years. Never saw it, nor did I make the effort to.

If it did happen, it was a classless act. There's really no defending such actions by fans, regardless of your opinion of the guy as a coach.

Seth Davis was obviously making up what he said, but I consider Steve Smith a credible source.

It did happen, my brother was at UK during all of this. While he didn't take part in it some people he knows did. I have pictures he took of it at my computer at home. I will try to post them tonight....

if it happened it happened....it's ancient history....NOT to condone it, but if it did happen it would not be the first time a coach had it done to them....but tubby never has to worry about the pressure of being head coach of UK ever again....it's over let him enjoy his new job....apparantly, he's not bitter about it, he's been classy toward the fan base....remember he said he was "not running FROM anything"...i'm still curious when he's getting his banner up in Rupp...
Contrary to popular media outlets, we did not run Tubby off. He was not going to be fired. There was pressure and I think it was best for everyone that he left, but we are not Alabama. If he had of come back he would have been cheered, just like always. I think Tubby was ready for a new challenge and was sick of the pressure. I can't blame hime, but I do get sick of the media blaming Uk fans. Tubby choose to leave, we didn't make him.

I think that it is going to take awhile before he gets his banner in Rupp. Right or wrong, there are a lot of strong feelings about Tubby Smith that need to calm down before a strong majority of the fan base will want to celebrate his tenure in Lexington.
I look at Tubby much in the same way that I look at Bill Curry. Most were glad to see Curry go but if you ask anyone today about the guy, they nod and say that he's a good man. The same will happen with Tubby, we just need a few recruiting classes to put some hurtful feelings behind us.

I wish I could say I ran him out, because I was one of the earliest people who saw the writing on the wall with Tubby. I argued for him to go many years ago.
But, I don't think Tubby is the kind of person to be "ran off". I think he just got sick of the pressure and folded. I admire him for a lot of things and taking all the crap from idiot fans is definitely one of them.
That said, there were people Sunday saying they wished we had hired Izzo instead of Gillispie. So if you think we ran Tubby out, how exactly did we do that? I didn't see Rich Brooks quitting when there were people wearing brown paper sacks on their heads at the stadium a few years ago.
I just don't get all the "ran him out" garbage. I think people want to think they are important enough to bear some kind of meaning to these peoples way of life. Amazing.

Phat Pie was a great operation. They had great version of derby pie. Is it still open? I know she owned it with several other women, including Sam Bowie's wife.

Signs in the yard are so passe', what with any yokel being able to buy a domain name for a buck ninety nine these days.
Somewhere.... somebody.... is planning firebillyg.com as we think.

That's a shame if that was really done. While he may not have been a great match for the UK team, him and his family certainly didn't deserve that. No one does.

Well..the fans were certainly "nicer" to them than they were to Bill Curry and his family.
Its "fans" like that that disgust me and give us all a bad name.

The signs in the yard never happened. That is all internet rumor that dookie v jumped on and ran with.
tubby even said, when he was asked about it, that if there were signs in his yard, he never saw them.
There has never been even one iota of proof that this happened. And, if it had of happened, there would have pictures everywhere of it.
It's the "big lie" going on here. That's where you keep repeating the big lie over and over until it becomes something that people believe.

I'd gather most all were placed by cowards in the cloak of darkness. Likely they were removed by the Smith family when noticed the next early a.m.

I'm sure neighbors and passersby saw them, and certainly the cowards'll brag to friends what they did.
Word easily gets around.
As to Tubby denying their existence, I've not heard him address it, although he may have.
I suppose that, as one would demand pictures as proof, I'll wait for the transcript or audio of Tubby saying it never happened.
Given the propensity of many nutjob fans, I don't doubt the veracity of the assertions made about the signs.

I should have known you would post in thread, too. And, I should have known that you post about things that never happened and call it the truth.
Provide one shred of evidence that a sign was evr posted in tubby's yard. How hard can that be to do if it happened? How about one eyewitness? Of course, there is a one eyed lunatic claiming it happened, but, he got his info from the tubbites.

I have no facts but I have heard from too many pro and anti Tubby supporters that live in Lexington that say it was true. I just do not know why all of them would want to lie. :shrug1:

Things like this have happened in just about every big time sports program, unfortunately. I remember a couple of times moving vans pulled up to Bill Battles door at UT in the seveties. It has happened at many others. Look at the nonsense Bill Curry and his family had to endure at Alabama and UK. If it did happen it is unfortunate but it is also something you have to accept as a possibility when you take a big time sports job. As Super Chicken used to say on saturday morning cartoons, "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it." As so many have said LETS MOVE ON.

I am sure coach Smith will get his tribute, when time passes. He may even get a game scheduled, to get his accolade. Who knows? As for the die hard Tubby worshipers, who felt that the man was dumped on even though he made 3 mil his last year, they will never let it go. I know of one such Tubbite who wears a Gopher hat now in protest and has proclaimed himself a Cat fan as long as he has been alive. He, always brings up the character of the past coach and his charity work. I always respond that coaching a big time program is a very measurable entity and 2 and out in the tourney every year just doesn't cut it. IMHO, next season, when BCG gets more top players in the fold, will be when the Cats start kicking butt and the tubbites will reluctantly accept the new coach.
In response to the "good man" Curry comment, I have no respect for a man who tries to ruin star players ( Tim Couch and the option ) and pulls redshirts for the final game of a season ( James Whalen ).

My guess about signs being put in Tubby's yard are probably true but all of that is in the past. Tubby lives across the river from Minneapolis now in St. Paul in a town house and he will get no signs put in his neighborhood up there and Tubby seems to be very happy and has Saul working with him as his assitant.
Unless we just want to beat old news to death then why even continue to argue about it? We need to get over Tubby now and not treat him like we did Pitino which was first good and then bad. If we truly love UK basketball we are finally going to have to let go of our passions and our bitterness on how Tubby was treated here at UK. We need to support UK now and our players and coach.

I have have heard many rumors, some probably true, of mischief directed towards Tubby. But what is the most strange to me is that I haven't missed a wink of sleep over any of it!

Considering how late the mail gets delivered in most areas, I'd gather you didn't.
On a similar note, my paperboy has never EVER seen me mow my grass or shovel snow from my driveway in the 13 years I've lived here...............
