Anyone listening to thezone right now? Matt Jones just had a seemingly credible call regarding a Larry Vaught post that has just hit scout stating four ADDITIONAL players are looking to transfer at the holiday break.

anyone with news on this?

I am not listening, but are you saying that a journalist has called in?

conley was the call in, and MJ just said the post has to be from Larry Vaught, but they can't get internet access in the booth to check it out right now.

Surely someone has this information on this site???

The caller sounded less than credible, but I dont normally listen due to the whole internet streaming obstacle.

Well, who were we all thinking anyway? Most seem to think Jared Carter is gone, I've heard Mike Williams, but who else? We're literally starting to run out of bodies before we get into the heart of our depth.

This is nuts people.

Between random callers and Matt Jones posting this stuff in his blog, UK fans are going bonkers. Nobody names anyone, just spit out tiny pieces of "this is what I hear" information to keep you interested.

If anyone here did not think we would or could lose some players this year, then they must have been day-dreaming.

It is BG's job to control this situation, if there is a situation to control. He makes big bucks to run this ship. Let him earn it.

My suggestion....Just wait until it happens...or it doesn't happen...then expound on it.

While I think it is good not to start unsubstantiated rumors, I have no problem with expounding upon informed information that help build predictions. If there are folks close to the program that say "four more" could transfer, then I want to discuss it. If there are crazy folks calling in speculating that others are on the way out, then it is wreckless at best to discuss.

I have a request for the moderators of forum, any of you.

Can you please keep this thread under control? You all do a good job, but this could get very ugly and/or hurtful quickly. Legion hasn't officially transferred yet, and look what's been said in that thread.

I'm not asking for tyranny, just a watchful eye. These players are people too.

It looks to be under conrol. There is such a feeling of uncertainty about our program right now, I can understand people getting a little nervous but we all just have to let everything pan out. We have no control over what will happen. We will be fine!

Believe me, I'm not blaming BCG, but he and Legion have been here about the same amount of time and Legion is Gillispie's recruit, so his short tenure is irrelevant in this situation. It's no ones fault, it just happened.

I have been saying a bunch of players might leave since last Spring so this rumor , if true, wouldn't suprise me.Whoever wants to go needs to do so. Last years team was one of the worst teams in 40 years. It's time to start from scratch, that means EVERYONE on the team must be totally committed to the coach and the program. if they aren't WE don't need them. Will a large defection of players hurt in the short term ; yes. Will it bebifit us in the long run; I think so. My biggest fear is our fan base will freak out and over react and thus drag out the total rebuilding process even further. Folks UK basketball WAS BROKE and there is no simple painless way to fix it. Does anyone really believe if we had anything coming back this year Tubby would have bolted, please! I just hope every one can remain sane long enough for Gillespie to straighten us out (if he can). The bottom line here is THIS SEASON IS GOING TO BE A WASH. Accept it, and try to take your basketball pleasures in the very small doses this team may give you and wish for happier days.

Its strange how this is currently playing out. Evidently FoxSports's Jeff Goodman -- who loves twisting the nipples of the Wildcat faithful -- has a source close enough to publish the story. The rest of the media still can't confirm the story with Alex or his mother. Else we would have an official ESPN/CBS/AP/etc. news story about it.

The fact that Larry Vaught made his post on scout.com about 4 others wanting to leave (allegedly -- I haven't seen it with my own eyes) also seems to be unconfirmed. What we do know is the following:

1) What the coach said during his radio show today (Legion and he met on Friday, etc.)
2) Alex Legion's mom voicing her disapproval at Rupp Arena Saturday

if we beat gardner webb, beat stony brook by 784 points, beat north carolina nobody would've breathed a word of concern about Coach....

this is absurdity, did we think Coach would come in here and win the national championship in december?

Coach inherited a team that is what it is....he's got his work cut out for him...but he's got his sleeves rolled up and is in the mud and mire trying to get the ox out of the ditch....but they don't give out any trophies in december....tubby didn't leave the cupboard bare, but a couple of the hinges are missing and the doors are cracked in half on the floor and a one of the shelves is missing....

YES, we are UK but we're seeing how much in the crapper we've been the last couple of seasons....give Coach time....this season is not going to be a "wash", it may be painful at times, but it'll get turned around and once SEC play starts we'll be better off...

just for heaven's sake stop all this "panic in the streets" mess....

I don't think the news of someone transfering is a shock to me. I kind of expected it. But not Legion. I'm sorry to see him go, but wish him the best. Hopefully, this is best for Legion. Folks, it's going to get worse before it gets better. But it will get better. It always has, always will. This thing is going to take some time. More time than the Rick Pitino rebuild took. We don't have the core of dedicated players now that we did then. And maybe not as much talent. I think BCG will get things straightened out. It may not be pretty at times, and it may hurt. But that's what being a fan is all about. As for the current and future players, be prepared to bend your will to Gillispie's. He won't have it any other way. And shouldn't.

This program my well need on big blue enema.

Even if the enema included names like Meeks and Jasper? Because those are 2 of the names being thrown around out there a lot.

Personally, I think it is time for Gillispie to evaluate exactly what is best for the program as a whole and keep everyone intact for a while. Pretty hard to do sometimes because you cannot let the inmates run the nuthouse.

Very tiresome time and frustrating. I grew very weary of the Tubby turmoils over the years. It wore me flat out. I have no desire to live through it again.

I think Billy is the guy to get us there, but he has to get over this hump right now...and it is a hump...before it becomes a mountain.

I expected to have some of the existing players transfer, not his own recruits. Your right, it is his job to control it. I dont think allowing his top recruit to transfer is controlling it. I dont know the entire situation but he should have seen this coming.

When a player of Legion's caliber leaves---with no indication he is a bad kid or a bad seed--the coach and the program should take a deep look at themselves to see what, if anything, they contributed to the circumstance so they can avoid it in the future.

I do not believe Billy G will do that and that concerns me terribly.

Also, please try to refrain from saying negative things about Legion. He has made his decision--let him move on without some UK "faithful" challenging his game, his family or his character.

IMO, Billy G has some personal evaulation to do.

Legion is a BCG recruit, but to what extent? I recall that Legion kinda fell into our lap right after Coach Gillispie arrived. Did he really know what he was getting into?

I don't know if BCG recruited Legion from his days at TX A&M.

matt colvin
12-04-2007, 10:54 AM
Well Raleigh, that consideration might have merit. But in that case, I would question why Coach took him. He might not have had time to evaluate the whole situation, only the player....I don't know :shrug1:

We don't know yet, but I'm pretty sure we're going to find out that the reason Alex wants to leave - or his mother wants him to - is because BG comes down extremely hard on the ones who screw up or screw off. (It may even involve his use of profanity, because we know Alex's mom is very religious and we can assume that Alex is as well.) Some players can handle it, some can't, pure and simple. I would imagine that Ramel Bradley is #1 on BG's s*tlist, but to his credit, he appears to be dealing with it.

However, I don't think that the solution is for BG to change his coaching style to suit individual players. I certainly wouldn't support a coach who would do that.

12-04-2007, 12:07 PM
I find it funny that some of, as someone put it "faithful" are so quick to say coach needs to change. Bull....we went out and got him because of HOW HE COACHES. Now some want him to change that to suit their needs?

And then we complain when Dookie V says our fans are crazy?

Why should the program stop and take a look at itself because a Freshman decided the program wasn't for him and wanted to go elsewhere?

It's his decision, and no ill will towards Legion, but for BCG and the program to examine their style would be the equivalent of letting the players dictate how the program is run and coached.

This is just a growing pain. If he doesn't want to be here, let him leave and hopefully play elsewhere and end up in the NBA and fufill his dream.

Sometimes UK folks take a transfer a little too personally as a smack to the school/program. Obviously the family wasn't happy, and when it's all over with, it looks like Alex's mom said it was time for him to leave.

And all of you barking about the parents shutting up - remember who Pat Patterson answers to. There's a very healthy mix in a parent/program relationship.

I think that Meeks and his family have a great mix. I think Patterson has a good mix - even though these relationships are much more visual to the fan base than other players, it's obvious they trust the decisions being made.

I heard from a friend who is located downtown, next to the athletics department, from a friend who uses the same toilet on campus where some of the players go, from a janitor who knows how many strings are in the mop at the wildcat lodge that...............

RUMORS do not get anyone closer to results or answers. If you do not like the way things are going in Big Blue world, I suggest that you find another team. The other true blue fans will ride it out and will hope for the best for not only wins vs/ losses but also for the well being and character of each and every young man that wears the Kentucky jersey.

I have heard rumors of 'mass transfers' so many times over the years I can't even count them. I don't remember it ever happening mid year, ever. I have never seen more than 1 player transfer after a semester. We might see one or two more, it is to be expected when you change coaches, but I would be shocked if Jasper or Meeks transfered. They are injured, what do they have to be upset about with the coach? Jasper had micro fracture surgery, most people don't make it back right away. He had to get cleared by doctors to practice, so I don't see how it is BCG fault he is having fairly predictable setbacks. I will never believe that Meeks is upset. He comes from a family that believes in discipline and hard work from everything I can tell. I am sure he is frustrated with being injured but I doubt he is looking to transfer. He is the leader on this team from what I have heard and one of the hardest workers there is. I imagine BCG loves the kid since he seems to be everything he would want in a player. I am sure once he is healed he will be right back in the starting lineup. The sky isn't falling. I don't think I have ever seen a guy go from so loved to so hated by December of his first year. Calm down people. It is going to be a bumby ride the next two years, so get used to it, but I believe in the end BCG will prove to be the correct man for the job. Let's not turn into Alabama fans.

Vaught did make that post on Scout.com. I saw it yesterday. He didn't say who and he didn't say who told him that, although he started another thread talking about players' family members being vocal at the UNC game. I didn't see the thread about four more leaving today. Looks like it was deleted. He's making quite a few unVaught-like posts, saying certain players aren't any good and we'd be better off if they did leave. I'm wondering if his evil twin is posting under his password.

Isn't it interesting that the very things people said they admired about our new coach are now being used to bash him. Folks Billy G is not doing or saying a thing at UK he hasn't said and done everywhere else he has been. He isn't "slick" like Rick or a "nice guy" like Tubby. He is a tough earthy guy from Texas who worked his but off to get every thing he has gotten. Things aren't going well right now but I would remind folks things were going very poorly LONG before Billy G got here. What I see now is a childish portion of our fan base petulantly demanding he fix a problem YEARS in the making, right now. A very American trait given our current society but it isn't going to happen no matter how much some of our fans demand it. Your analogy to Alabama IS VERY TIMELY. I honestly don't know if Billy G will be "the guy" to bring us back to prominence but I at least am willing to give him an honest chance to do so, something some here apparently will not. What pray tell would motivate someone to take such a stance?

I think I agree with that post, BigblueDrew.

My suggestion....Just wait until it happens...or it doesn't happen...then expound on it.

This is the way you've got to do it.

Or you would go insane...

Speculation Nation.

I find it funny that some of, as someone put it "faithful" are so quick to say coach needs to change. Bull....we went out and got him because of HOW HE COACHES. Now some want him to change that to suit their needs?

And then we complain when Dookie V says our fans are crazy?

Anyone listening to thezone right now? Matt Jones just had a seemingly credible call regarding a Larry Vaught post that has just hit scout stating four ADDITIONAL players are looking to transfer at the holiday break.

anyone with news on this?

Guys, its to be expected. I was suprised that when TS left, that alot of players didn't bail then. Please don't go jump off the Kennedy...YET! I think you will see a lot of the non-essential players leave. And I wish them the best, let those guys chase their dreams at whatever program they wish.

But if some of our KEY guys leave......JUMP!
