just read some thoughts going through acie law's mind when BCG took over.
"I remember a time when I didn't even want to talk to him off the court," says Law, a senior guard. "Now we're friends."
"People really believe they're going as hard as they possibly can," Law says, "until you go through a Coach Gillispie workout. I can't speak on everybody's behalf, but I'm positive nobody goes harder than we do."
"Dominique looks me in the face and says, 'Acie, I don't want to play basketball no more,' " Law says. "I looked at him and said, 'I don't want to play, either.' "
"You'd think he's the nicest, sweetest person, and he is — off the floor," Law says. "In between those lines, it's all business with him. There's a switch. We'll be joking in the locker room; he'll be in a great mood. We'll see him in practice, and there goes the switch. He's just (ticked) at us."
my personal favorite:
"I think some parents would see their child going through a tough situation like that and they would immediately side with their child," he says. "My parents were like, 'No, this is going to work for you. This is a tough point in your life. Face it like a man and get through it.' "

coach g is not nice. he's not an easy coach to play for. i think some fans are wanting him to change. which, IMO is stupid. you don't ask a guy who's demanded hard work from his players to get the job he has now to suddenly change the approach he has used to get here. it's like my dad always said; "you gotta dance with who brung ya". i fully support coach g and hope whoever wants out gets out, i also hope that some of the fans who are dogging him get out of the way and don't come back in 2-3 years when we're a MUCH better team. go get 'em coach!!!!!

this one offers a little more insight into the situation. it's really beginning to look like mom played a pretty big role in all of this. just reading between the lines it seems as if legion's dad has seen this before. i geniuinely hope alex has a great career. but, this is not a program altering loss.

Very interesting article. Seems we have another case of Player's Parent Syndrome. If Legion's family isn't happy with the situation at UK, then they can do what they want. Sounds like this isn't the first time Legion has been yanked around by others. I wish him and his family luck wherever they land.

Fine with me...let him go. However, UK should not release him and he should have to sit out 2 years. I'm fine with him not being happy here and wanting to leave, however, he didn't even try and that...I'm not ok with.

Anyone here remember Adolph Rupp? I was too young but best I can remember about hearing about coach Rupp was that he was a mean and demanding SOB. But look at what he did for college basketball. I think that it's going to be the same for BCG.
You may not like him but by golly you're going to respect him.

Nothing to hold him on. He did not have to sign an LOI with UK.

You can't do that to the kid. Not only are you punishing him for his father's lack of control of the mother but you are sending a very harsh signal to other recruits. I know what you are going to say, but save it. Some times you get a kid that comes and then wants to leave. If Legion isn't released then it hurts the program in the eyes of recruits more than it does Alex.
Now, Legion's father on the other hand is the bad guy here. It is HIS job to be involved in this situation, hear ALEX out, talking with the monster and then "advise" ALEX on what ALEX should do. Not tell Alex what Alex should do.
This is not the mother's decision to make but it is the father's obligation to see to it that mom doesn't try to control the kid. The kid has been living under the womans thumb for his entire life and he won't be out from under it until he gets fed up or until she runs out of days. The choice is his, but for now he won't be playing any basketball.
All of that said, it's not a deathblow to the program. This year is very much a rebuilding year and it won't be much worse without his minutes or his points.

I'm not sure which forum accept bigotted statements like this, but I'm quite sure it doesn't belong here. As a Christian, I find it to be a misrepresentation of scripture and a blatant attack on my faith. I also resent the comparison to a religion, which has a long history of abusing women.
What ever you think a man's role may be in the family structure, I'm sure your opinion doesn't belong on this forum. Also, an appology would be appropriate.

I've been exposed to fundamental christianity enough in my family to know that numerous fundy forms of christianity preach that the woman be subserviant to her man, based on the same portions of the OT that fundy muslims point to - being that the same God is worshipped.
I'm actively involved in a christian church that doesn't preach such, thankfully.
Suffice it to say, I grew up around several and worked with a few "born again" individuals who fully believed such.
And certainly those sects are in the minority, but depending where one lives, it thrives.

Certainly.
My post was based on a stereotype of sorts that does have some basis in truth for some, but was essentially a poke at the comment I quoted - as if the husband lords over the wife in some fashion. :icon_lol:

The pertinent scripture is found in the 5th chapter of Ephesians, which is the New Testament. All Christian churches preach out of thee New Testament, including Ephesians. I have no doubt that you have heard scripture misrepresented in your life, but that is no excuse for attacking Christians.
All Christians must be spiritually "born again", so not sure what kind of Christian church would leave out essential understanding of salvation through grace. This is the most important issue in the faith.
Again, this is misrepresentation of Christianity and it was meant to be an insult. An appology is in order.

Bringing a theological argument into a basketball thread irritates me beyond belief. If I want to read an argument such as this, I'll go into the political forums and do so. Suck it up.....take it there...or be quiet about it.
Back on topic.
Momma's should be more concerned about what their son's are doing when they are not playing sports under strong coaching. Discipline seems to be in very short supply everywhere. We wish Alex well. Some maturity and time to reconsider may be to his advantage. Yes, we all need strong Dads.

Geez, lighten up!!!! I feel very safe in saying that no disrespect was meant to any religion. Fact is there are some christians who do still consider women to be second class citizens. I live in eastern KY, work with mostly women, and one of my closer friends at work is married to a man who thinks he should have total control and although she is very active in her church, takes care of all the church finances for her husband (its his job), she isnt allowed at any of the church's business meetings because she's a woman. She has actually stood outside the door and explained the expenditures, etc to him so that he could explain the business during the meeting.
Now, part of it is her own fault, for tolerating this treatment, but, thats a different issue. The point is, this attitude can rightly be associated with SOME fundamentalist christians. And, just to clarify, I'm a 51 year old MALE.
Sorry to go in this direction, but I just couldn't help it.

Again, sorry for the post above. Now, as for Alex, I, like a previous poster, feel sorry for this kid. Mama may have just totally screwed up his future. The NBA in two years plan is down the tubes, since he'll have to sit out a year; I just don't believe he's the kind of talent who's going to play himself into the first round in 1 semester.
