And what a classy man. He said about us beating number 1 LSU.

I've always liked Bowden.

Funny, I read on another board where people were all over him. He was quoted as saying something like, "Woodson reminds him of Tebow becasue of his mobility". Folks were pointing out that the old guy may not be quite with it anymore.

Bobby Bowden was and is a class act. I heard him make several very complimentary comments about UK on the news this morning. You're going to have detractors in any situation.

After UK, FSU is the program I have always followed in football, and there is one reason for that: Bobby Bowden.

1) Folksy
2) Great to other coaches. . . In a profession that, believe it or not, shares as much as any, Bowden stands out by being great to other coaches. I have seen him at clinics and he is gracious and open to everyone he talks to.
3) The guy can flat coach.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie "We Are Marshall", you will find it to have some interesting and impressive references to Bowden, who was then the West Virginia football coach. Evidently, he made a lot of equipment and uniforms available to Marshal when they were trying to rebuild the football program. W. Va gave them a game to help raise some money. Marshall was not D-1 at that time. All but two of the members of the Marshall football team, most coaches and even the A.D. were killed in the plane crash. My memory fails, but I do remember the movie showing Coach Bowden made person commitments to help Marshall and the coaches get the program on its' feet again.

We beat the son last year, so the old man will want to take us to the woodshed this Dec. 31. Coach Heggins will certainly enjoy a victory over his old boss.

I am not sure how much of the role Bowden played in Marshall's recovery is true, and how much is artistic license, but his actions in the movie jive with everything I have seen and heard about him over the years.

I will say this: Coaches are among the professionals most willing to share successful schemes and techniques of any profession in the world. It is no coincidence that so many High Schools now run the Spread and Spread-Option attacks. This is because coaches share.

He is also a man of faith and is proud of it.

My father had the privelege of playing golf with him many years ago and they became friends. My father had been a longtime high school football coach and they shared many old stories about thier experiences in the GAME, and corresponded off and on for years. He sent a wreath to my fathers funeral with a very nice personal note despite being in the final week of preperation for a bowl game at the time. I have never forgotten it , a class individual.

I have always liked and respected him. I have also always liked his team because of him. Should be a whale of a game.

Thanks for sharing that, Drew. Too, Bowden's gesture is most impressive, besides touching. I, too, respect the man.

UedK, in regard to your comment post about Bowden's comment about Woodson's mobility, let's hope you are correct. :icon_lol: I fear, though, that Coach Bowden will thoroughly study tape and have his team quite prepared for UK. I naturally hope that OUR team is much better prepared, though, and want the offense to shine partly for Coach Heggins' sake. :)

I respect Bowden as a man and a coach. One thing is for sure, FS will be prepared for us, and we are in for a fight. It will be a very competitive game.
