Tirico just said that Bowden would step down after the bowl game and Jimbo Fisher would take his place as head coach. That may not be a good thing for us, ala John Wooden in 1975 (I think it was '75).

As was reported last week in the Sentinel, Florida State University is close to announcing an agreement that would annoint offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher as the successor to head football coach Bobby Bowden whenever Bowden decides to retire, a source close to the situation confirmed to the Sentinel this morning.

I finished the title in my mind before opening the link, MSU Cat. Too, I have the same reaction as you. Besides added motivation for his players, I remember some questionable officiating in our game against UCLA that season (even their not calling a most obviously deserved technical against Wooden, if I'm not mistaken). No, lighthouse, I don't think anything was intentional, but officials are human, and the heart can intervene and make someone think he has seen something he has not really seen.
Since Coach Bowden is such a good, highly respected man, this announcement concerns me a bit. I guess I remember too well Coach Curry's once saying that holding COULD virtually be called on every single play. Justly call me a worry-wart. I surely wish Coach Bowden had not made such an announcement at this time, though.:icon_sad:

Bowden recently signed a 1 year extension and most people feel that this means he will retire after next season, not this one.

Yes, I heard the same bit from Tirico, and they were thinking after next year or maybe even another.
No, this isn't the BB send off game.

Not sure if its true or not.....but we have something similar in our history.
Remember after the annoucment that Curry was canned we won something like 3 out of our last 4?
Something to consider.

We have something similar in our history in another sport too: 1975 in San Diego.

According to this weeks edition of "The Sporting News,"Bowden was given a one year extension and raise bringing his salary to 2.5 million next year, and his possible retirement at the conclusion of the season.
I hope the ESPN reoprt is not true, because that could be bad for UK if it is.After witnessing what happened to Hall when Wooden retired,I'd hate to see Brooks and the football Cats get the same treatment.

The rumor is, Jimbo Fisher will get the job when BB retires. Sounds like FSU doesn't want him to leave for some other HC job. I'm sorry, but I don't see BB retiring anytime soon. JMHO
OK, someone needs to, so I volunteer to start the rummer.
Turtleneck Tom Jurich and Pitrinocio to FSU.
Actually, I have no real reason to think so but I bet Mr. Bouden coaches another year or two. I like both he and Paterno, when those guys go it will be sort of a generational change and I'll feel even older than I do now. LOL

You were writing your post at the same time as I had been composing mine. I now feel MUCH better. Thanks. :)

I think this is one of those situations that they go ahead and pick the replacement because they know that retirement will happen in the near future, but not sure when. I believe it was that way with Eddie and Sean Sutton, and I think that it is the same with Bobby and Pat Knight.
And someday, Aaron Rodgers will be the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. He may be as old as Brett Favre is now, but he will finally get to be the starting quarterback. :icon_mrgreen:

Sorry for the misinformation. Here's the link. He says he doesn't know when he'll retire. I must have not been listening too closely when they were talking about this subject. Sorry.

For some reason, I don't see Jurich hiring Petrino again. As far as Jimbo Fisher goes, while I understand that continuity is a good thing, a program like FSU needs to at least shop around before offering it to Fisher.

Exactly. FSU hasn't been playing to their usual high caliber for the last few years, maybe a change might do them good.
