there's no scoop to give. Not sure if Billy G addressed it at his presser but last anyone knows is that he is still on campus, attending classes, and will be heading home at Christmas break.

Isn't home in Lexington now? I thought his mother got a job and moved.

according to Matt Jones:
QUICK LEGION UPDATE: At press conference, Billy Clyde said that Legion is not on the team at this point. He had not talked to him until today at which point Alex asked if he could be back on the team. Billy Clyde’s answer is essentially “we’ll see”….more on the show.

Its a good sign for us if he wants to come back on the team

Gillispie stated that he's not on the team, but has asked to be reinstated. Gillispie also stated that he is undecided on whether or not he will allow Alex Legion to return to the team at this time

He'll probably go ask the team if they'd allow him back.
Then - he'll run him until he pukes.

Didn't BCG say on his last radio show how wonderful Alex is and he would be welcomed back? I know other factors are at play, I just wonder what they are. At this point, we would be better served getting marital advice from Terry Meiners than believing any circulating rumors...that's saying alot.

It's also looking as if there are some demands from both Gillispie and Alex's mother...
This could play out for a while longer...

Gillispie said he met with Legion for the first time today after Alex asked for the meeting last night.
"He is not with the team. Our guys are doing a fantastic job of not being distracted," Gillispie said.
What about reports he had been talking to Legion?
"I don't know about all those reports. I had heard we had been having discussions and I was sending guys to convince him to stay," Gillispie said. "Alex is a good person and has the opportunity to be a good player. While he was with us, he did a good job. But if a player chooses to leave, we understand and move on."
Any chance left he could be back?
"I have no idea. I talked to him today and he wants back on the team. I wished him well. This will not be a distraction," Gillispie said. "You never know what might happen in the future.
"The way I understand it, I had been meeting with Alex Legion 24 hours a day. But Alex only asked me last night if he could meet with me."
Gilispie said Legion asked for his release last Friday and he didn't know if he had used it or not.

Legion(and probably his mother) have placed Coach Gillispie in a very difficult position. And Coach probably will test Legions sincerety in wanting to play.
Uk has a very big game against Indiana this weekend, and unfortunately the Legion episode has been a distraction.Whats the lesson to be learned from all of this, who knows. And as fans ,we don't know what has actually occured,we only have that information that has been reported in the press, and opinions expressed on the various web sites pertaining to UK.

I played for a coach like BCG. You hate him until you realize how much more of a man he is making you.
If Legion comes back, expect a completely perfect attitude and those two will end up closest out of any of the players on the team.

I agree. If he realizes he made a mistake then he should be welcomed back. Remember, he is only 18 years old, 18 year olds make a lot of mistakes. I like him as a player and if the team will take him back (I'm sure they will) than Billy G should do it sooner rather than later.

It is not that simple guys.
If you listen to the entire presser, there are definitely issues with a parent in this thing. BG described the entire ordeal a distraction to the team. He also commented how well the team has looked since then and how focused they were.
I know you guys don't want to hear about Momma Legion, but you cannot avoid it in this case. She is the driving force.
Case in point......
"You'd have to ask (Alex)," Gillispie said when asked what role Legion's mother may have played. "I've got my own thoughts on that but I couldn't put a number on that as far as a percentage or who has the decision. I do have my opinion though, yeah, which I won't share with you."
I suspect that Alex will be welcomed back but not at the expense of the team and being a further distraction. My take on this presser is that if Momma can stay on the sidelines and let Alex play, then he will play, assuming he does the work required. If she wants a bigger role, then I say he will not return.
If pressed for an opinion...I say he returns. At least, I hope so because I think he is a good kid that is being mis-guided to an extent.

Yeah, that's a very telling quote. But how does Billy G put a cap on the mom? What can he tell Alex, "tell your mom to chill out"? Sometimes I forget that Billy G has to be more than a basketball coach. What I job he has...

Thanks Bob, I hadn't read that entire quote yet. Based on what I had read, I had assumed that he'd just wait until after the IU game, but apparently there is still work to be done on this deal too. I hate that Coach has had to put up with this and the injuries already. But that goes with the job I guess.

Thanks ukbob, I hadn't seen the rest of the story either. Quite a situation here. Thank God I'm not the coach. As I stated in an earlier post, I'm not so sure we'll see Alex back on the team. This mamma issue is ridiculous. Reminds me of my days coaching little league. Never thought I'd see that at the D1 college level. Not sure how you can handle this. Good luck with this one Billy. I will definitely back the coach, which ever way he goes. Remember ya'll, Billy wants to win more than any of us, its his JOB. He'll do what he feels will give him a stronger team, and it may mean Alex goes elsewhere.
I do wish Alex the best, wherever he ends up, especially if he still wears Blue and White.

Already a distraction by the lack of information from Coach Gillispie and UK. Either you take him back or you don't. Do whatever you have to do and move on. However let's make one thing clear, this team needs Legion. This team needs something or someone to make a move to bring it back to being a team that is enjoyable to watch. We haven't had much to cheer about for some time now. Someone make a move and let's move on. Enough already.

Distraction for who (whom?)? The fans? Honestly, its not our business; its the business of the coach, the team and the athletic department. Don't get me wrong, I want to know everything, every detail, everything Billy tells the team in pregame and at halftime....but, it really isn't my business. When Billy thinks this thing is a distraction for the team, he'll end it one way or another....and if he doesn't, and lets it be a distraction, then Mitch needs to have a talk with him....but again, thats not really our business either....but I want to know about it.....ya I know, typical Cat fan.

I agree and further add:
I think that now is the time that Billy has to establish his position as THE TEAM'S LEADER and to demonstrate to all that his word is law. Show that he means what he says- no demonstrative second guessing his coaching motives and moves- HE IS THE MAN!! take it or leave it parents, players, fans.

This team may need him, but the shape and future of the PROGRAM is what the coach is entrusted with.

Players are bigger than the program at places like Florida, not UK.
There will be many Legions but there is only ONE Kentucky.

I'll not state my "credentials" as a UK fan but suffice it to say I've been around a while and am a bit older that most on this board. I have also--for the most part-raised my family.
I believe that perspective frames the context of my feelings on the Gillespie. I have some major concerns about the way he is handling himself, the program and the Legion deal.
Saying that the Legion situation will not be a distraction--makes it just that--a distration--and one that lingers. In the immportal words of Barney Fife (how is that for aging myself), Gillespie needs to "nip it, nip it in the bud".
If that means Alex comes back--I'll be thrilled. If not, cut the young man lose and quit playing word games in the press. (How can Gillespie let two days go by without talking to Legion?)
