We hear no talk in reference to a big man for 2008. Carter will stay-where? On the bench?

major upset to me this year. Is it lack of p.t. or lack of confidence or both?

Here's just a guess:
He can't get it out of his head that he's torn up that shoulder TWICE and is now trying to bang with the big boys. Most physical therapists I've talked with (or unfortunately had to use) say the mental part is the key.
He was recruited by a coach with one style of play and is now having to learn another way. While hurt.
The kid has too much on his mind. I was a half-way bad bowler at one time until a friend of mine convinced me to start watching my form....then I couldn't bowl at all because I was too busy thinking.
Jared will play better when he plays and doesn't overthink. If his best isn't good enough, at least he can say he gave it his best.

I agree, I considered myself a pretty decent hitter in high school, then my coaches tried to teach me better form and I started sucking. I think it was the same way with Adam Dunn.
