A Name to Watch….(Wesley Witherspoon), by Matt Jones

As we continue to look to the future to help ease the pain of the precious present, another name is on the horizon and should be kept in the back of UK fans’ minds. Wesley Witherspoon is a SF (ranked 9 in some rankings at the position) in the Class of 2008 and is potentially one of the best players left out on the market. From Georgia, Wesley plays for Berkmar, a team that recently competed in the Commodore Classic in Lexington, which allowed Wesley to make a trip to Rupp Arena (where he cheerfully wore his blue Santa hat during the game). Wesley is a wing player, but has explosive hops that allow him to do some work inside (a la AJ Stewart or Chris Singleton). Witherspoon can score the basketball and is more able offensively than some of the SF players ranked higher than him at this time. HE claims to have an offer from UK and is being recruited by Coach Webster, the same coach who recruited and followed him while at Illinois. Below are some videos to get you going….

He actually played our high school ( June Buchanan) in Lex-town a couple of Saturdays ago. They beat us by 3. I had some friends who made the trip and they talked really highly of this guys game. They said that he was the whole team--vary athletic. I didn't know we were interested in him possibly being a Wildcat.

****, top 60 forward according to Rivals. Lefty with good speed and nice touch around the basket. Reminds me a little of Erik Daniels, but he's way skinnier at this point.
