I know we have discussed this before but I always enjoy the thread anyway. :)

I had a rough experience at Thanksgiving and am currently on a break from bourbon!:icon_evil:
Normally though, I like Knob Creek.

Excellent timing! Two new ones for me this year.
We just finished off a bottle of Russell's Reserve this weekend. Very nice. Light, not overpowering, very good. It's bottled by Austin Nichols in Lawrenceburg, so I assume that's Wild Turkey.
Then I've also started hearing a lot about Jim Beam Black lately. Other than Booker's, I don't have any Beam products, so I bought a bottle but haven't tried it yet. But it won't last through yearend though because we're both home till after New Year's. ;)
Merry Christmas Randy!

I have a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 20 year-old that I've been working on for the last couple of years. And I have a bottle of Rare Breed--very nice. I guess it's evident that I only pour bourbon once in a blue moon.
So my Christmas bourbon will be single malt scotch--Lagavulin 16 year-old. But maybe I'll take a nip of the Pappy, for old time's sake.

I bought a bottle of Basil Hayden and that will be my solstice bourbon...it will arrive 1:08 AM EST on the 22nd or 11:08 PM here in Colorado on the 21st.

I don't really have a particular bourbon for Christmas or any other occasion/holiday. I usually have a rotation of 4-5 bourbons in stock anyway, such as (currently) Evan Williams 10 YO, Ridgemont Reserve 1792, Eagle Rare 10 YO, Makers Mark and Knob Creek.
I've still a little bit of Ardbeg left as well as some Johnny Walker Black label. I expect I'll be receiving a bottle of some sort of scotch from my wife for Christmas, as that's the spirit I'm "lowest" of.

Maker's Mark is the only bourbon that's allowed in my liquor cabinet.

This year I have a bottle of Russell's Reserve to add to the customary Old Grandad and Woodford's Reserve.
Wine with dinner , port afterwards... bourbon before , and possible again later on...

If that's the case you are missing on some really great bourbon. While there is nothing wrong with Maker's, I have a bottle in my cabinet, there are much better bourbon's out there and they don't necessarily cost a small fortune. JMHO.

Probably the other way around as Basil Hayden, Sr. started distilling in 1796 while George Washington was our President...Basil Hayden was our first All-American in 1921 and was from Paris, Ky.

I just looked that up...I'm only about a century off. I talked to my mom tonight and asked if she knew Basil Hayden the basketball player, and she said sure, he was my Sunday school teacher. Small world. He also coached at UK for a season.

;)
Do you know the recipe for Maker's?
25% average bourbon, 75% hype.
;)
Just purchased a bottle of the 12 year old Van Winkel Special Reserve, may need to sample it tonight.

Well not me...I enjoy other fine bourbons but I have four bottles of Maker's in my collection, all of different sizes and I am an ambassador.

On Christmas Eve I cracked the seal on a bottle of William Larue Weller (129.9) I'd been saving. I like pretty much all bourbon, but I've never tasted any as good as the barrel proof Weller. Great stuff!!!

My wife purchased a bottle for me a few years ago. Uncut and unfiltered, as I recall. One of my very favorite bourbons.

Not haters per se, more like "non believers".
I think an accurate analogy is that there is no doubt that many people would consider a Cadillac to be a fine luxury car. That's precisely what their marketing would have you believe. But it is still a mass produced high volume automobile.
A true auto-phile would be driving a Bentley Arnage or a Maserati Quattroporte. And yes, gladly paying the price difference between the two.

The number one preference is Bernheim Wheat Whiskey. Though not a bourbon, it's smooth and tasty, not to be bothered by a mixer.

My Wife (Santa) and other good friends really took care of me this year. For Christmas I received:
2 bottles of Knob Creek
1 bottle of Woodford Reserve
1 bottle of Russell Reserve
1 bottle of Ridgemont 1792
Just in time for SEC play I might add!

I'm becoming more of a tequila drinker than bourbon drinker of late.
My wife got me some Cabo Wabo for Christmas - excellent on the rocks with a small slice of lime beneath the ice. Same goes for Cuervo 1800 Reposado, which has been splitting time with my bourbon on the weekends.

1800 reposado is good stuff!!! There are many of the higher-end tequilas that go down really smooth with just a slice of lime; unlike most of the other types that are better mixed in margaritas.
Speaking of that..........it's Friday afternoon........it's almost margarita time now.........55 minutes to go:icon_mrgreen:

I do like a good margarita. As for bourbon, we had several around here during Christmas and New Year's, but Jefferson's seemed to end up being the favorite.
