man i just saw this on kentucky.rivals.com
This is fantastic news if this is the case. I hope he has fully recovered though.
I wouldn't want him to rush back and re-injure himself.

I just hope they're not rushing him back early because we've lost 3 in a row and cannot really afford to lose another game.

I don't think they are rushing him. If you remember a couple weeks ago they reported he was running steps. This is great news!!!

i don't know the man personally, but from what i've heard him say in whatever context i don't think he'd do that....
but if jodie's back in full strength, that's GREAT news...

This is just an observation. I'm a big coach fan. I think he will get it done. But does anyone else get the feeling he sometimes over reacts to the injury reports? One day the view is ominous, the next Meeks is ready?
This was figurative..

Wow! if he is ready to go put him in!! but I could have sworn last week he hadn't even done anything basketball related since the injury happened

I just saw this on WKYT. While I would love for Jodie to come back only if he is healthy. i don't want him to rush back. It just seems kind of odd that a few days ago we were talking red shirt and now he could play tomorrow night.
If this is true. Things will be looking up.

Coach is just not politically correct.........he just speaks what he thinks......gotta get used to that.

Alot of fans "claimed" they loved that about him before the season started, funny how quickly stuff changes isn't it.

In the same Rivals article, Coach made the statement.."If they say he can play, he plays... if they say he can't, he doesn't." (paraphrase). In other words, the Doctors and the Trainers make the decision, not Coach. He just accepts what they tell him. He also said it was "A minute by minute situation...". An MRI was done on Jasper to see if he had damaged the knee by practicing last week, but Coach said the results weren't in yet. Gillispie is a professional - he's not going to "push" an injured player to play just because he needs them on the court - when the other "professionals" say they're ready, he'll welcome them back with open arms, but not before he gets the "thumbs up" from the Docs and Trainers.

This is great. GO MEEKS AND GO CATS!!!! That night I went to UK game. I also shook Meeks hand.
He said he depends on the players to tell the doctors exactly how they feel since they are the only ones who know. Also remember they originally said 4-6 weeks and we are at week 6 so it is not like he is pushing it crazy fast. He said this is still mid december and no one hands out championships in Dec so he wouldn't rush him if he wasn't ready.

I'd just be happy to see him in a uniform.
UFWildcat said we need his scoring prowess...
I say we need his everything
for the record, I'd say the exact same thing if this thread was about DJ. We need those guys so freaking much right now it's just silly.

We've got a good home stretch of "winnable" games coming up, befoe UofL - I'd love to see him ease back into things.
Keep your spirits up Jodie, we're all pulling for you!!

Meeks expected to play tonight
By Jerry Tipton
JTIPTON@HERALD-LEADER.COM (JTIPTON@HERALD-LEADER.COM)
Orestes Meeks plans to pop an "extra big bowl" of popcorn before he watches Kentucky play at Houston tonight. He figures he won't walk away from the television from tipoff to final buzzer.
That's because his son, guard Jodie Meeks, expects to play for the first time since being diagnosed early last month with a stress fracture in his pelvis.
"Oh, I think Jodie absolutely expects to play," the elder Meeks said. "I think he'd be pretty disappointed if he doesn't."
When asked in passing late in his news conference yesterday about Meeks, UK Coach Billy Gillispie revealed that the highly regarded sophomore had returned to practice and performed well Sunday and yesterday.

Looks As If Jodie Might Be Back In Action Tonight Against Houston. This Is A Great Thing To Bad It Wasnt Three Days Ago Against Uab. We Could Have Put Him In Against Vader And Possibly Shut Him Down. But Nevertheless It Should Be A Preety Good Game Tonight. I Guess We Will See.
Finally Are Team Is Lloking As If We Are About To Be Healed Up For Sec Play. Let's Hope!

As happened with Jasper, I worry about trying to get a player back from injury too quickly. If Meeks reinjures himself we might lose him for the entire season, not something this team can afford.

I do, too. However, I trust what his dad had to say about it, which seemed positive enough to ease my concerns.

Again, if he's cleared by the physicians why not play him? Its not like the coach is the one that calls the shots on this. Fractures either heel or they arent, its not like a tendon or ligament.

^^
The only question I have about playing him is conditioning. Doctors do not make the call on that.
Playing with a higher fatigue can lead to other injuries.
But coach has seen him practice, and maybe in small spurts???
