There will be plenty of talent on display in this week's King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic at Fairdale.

One star attraction is Lilburn, Ga., Berkmar High School forward Wesley Witherspoon, who is mulling over a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky.

Berkmar will play New Orleans Holy Cross at 9 on Wednesday night in the opening round. Witherspoon knows a lot of UK fans will be watching.

"I am looking forward to it, yes sir," Witherspoon said. "We're playing good, also. We're starting to play better as a team."

Witherspoon is a top-60 player nationally and is averaging 23 points and eight rebounds a game. He is also being courted by Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, Clemson, George Washington, Georgetown, Colorado, Kansas State and Memphis.

This is the type of player I love. Plus you have to admire his position on academics. Hope to see this young man in the Blue and White.

Noel Johnson from Fayette County, GA put up 46 against Ballard. Rivals has UK listed as one of his schools. He was very impressive, especially his shot. He is part of the 2009 class.

"I grew up a U of L fan, so our goal was to make him look more intriguing to the University of Louisville," Ballard coach Chris Renner said with a smile. "If I need to give up 50 or 60, I should have done that to get him there."

"My coach is from around here, so I had to put on a show for his friends and his family," said Johnson, who added that he plans to visit U of L once or twice while he's in town."

Yes, I read the same. :icon_frown: I surely would love for Noel Johnson to become a Cat, though.

Besides liking his talent, I like how his coach speaks of him. He calls Johnson "one of those dream-come-true guys," saying that he is "humble and a tremendous person" and adding how he "works hard" and returns to shoot after practices. I would surely hate for our rival down the road to get this one.
