He's the same guy who backed out of his LOI to Virginia Tech because of the shootings there.

I'm not really sure what to think about that. :shrug1:

Well this is interesting. Apparently he originally signed a LOI with VA Tech and then decided not to enroll citing the shooting. He then committed to Maryland.

Having signed a LOI, he normally would have to sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility if the does not complete a year at Va Tech. I think he has been released from the LOI by Va Tech but not sure. If released he could enroll and should be immediately eligible.

Due to ACC rules he would lose a year of eligibility and have to sit out a year if he enrolls in Maryland. Maryland plans on asking for a waiver of the ACC rules.

I just checked ESPN and Foxsports, and can't even find him on Maryland's roster or any news clips about a transfer. Heck, even Alex Legion and Kerry Benson are still listed on our roster?!?

Speaking of Benson, I never saw where he went to, or why? Benson was getting some pt, so I do not know what the issue was.

He is not enrolled as a student at Maryland. He wants to enroll for the second semester but will need a waiver from the ACC to play bb.

On this much thicker '07 version of the Cats Pause Yearbook, he's listed at 6'8" and 215 lbs as a 3-star recruit hailing from Friendly HS in Clinton, MD.

I'm going to slide this thread over to the recruiting forum.

This is the link that shows him as 4-star.

Played for a major AAU team, it'd be nice to see his stats on it.

His scout profile is definitely worth a read, take a look:

Love the quote from Patterson's AAU coach. Looks like exactly the kind of kid we could use,

Last thing I heard Benson left the team, but stayed in school at UK.

So he didn't have to kill himself in practice is my guess.

Yesterday on the Joe B. and Denny show, coach Hall mentioned that rumors around the program were that a mid-season transfer (in) might be in the works but said he would not mention names.

He played against Patterson, may have some ties that could bring him here.

Your right, lets get him! :icon_mrgreen:

Seriously, he would be a welcomed addition to the team. I remember him backing out of the VT LOI and I was upset for his reasoning. He's just a kid, I can understand the lack of tact. If he's floating out there, and wants to play, then we ought to give him a chance.

I don't think I would enjoy going to a place that just got Massacred either ..

I don't know what goes on in these kids heads, or maybe my expectations are just to high of them. I would hope if it were me that I would try to bring something positive to that campus and honor my commitment.

I'm sure the VT football team has something to play for in the Orange Bowl, these kids are not letting that awful incident rule the day.

Easier said than done....if he didnt feel like he was safe there, then there is no way he should have gone. My dad works with a bunch of people who's kids go to Va Tech and they didn't return the next semester, they transferred. So i can't knock the kid for not going.

It may be right-and I hope it is- but KI does not have much of a reputation for being correct in its announcements, IMO.:shrug1:

I agree college SHOULD be the best time of your life. If your worried about some psychotic fool killing you while the adults charged with your saftey sit on thier hands it would tend to detract from the experience.

My wife's a Tech grad and our niece started there in September. She loves it and says that, if anything, what happened there has created a greater sense of family and cohesion. She also says that the administration has gone out of its way to welcome new students and give them a sense of safety.

It is being reported by others as well and not just at KY Ink, but from my experience they have been as reliable as any other site. But the report was listed as a "rumor" from the get go and nobody can find anything concrete. The person who originally posted it "as a rumor" is saying that he feels like it must be just that...a rumor.

I hear where you're coming from and I bet you're right (I don't know anyone from Tech so I can't say for myself). However, you understand the point we're making--Gilchrist didn't transfer because everybody feels more like a family now. I don't think you can blame him for not doing that, either.

The air travel business was a model in how to succeed in an oligarchic economic system prior to September 11. Now it's crippled with with bankrupt airlines because nobody wants to fly anymore...even though flying is now far safer than it ever was before September 11.

I don't blame him for not going back to Virginia Tech. I was in a bank robbery and I still don't like going into banks. I changed my whole career after that so it's different for everyone. All I know is that the UK campus is way safer than Maryland. Well...at least we don't riot and burn many couches after big wins or losses.
