Is it juen theyst me, because i have only been to 2 games at rupp, but the crowd never seems to be in the ballgame, i mean when i watch duke, and other programs play, their crowd is always in it. I always see when they pan to the crowd, it is always older people, and they are just sitting there, is there no way to get all of our students closer to the floor?

Ain't no Big Money, Blue Hair, BlueBlood gonna sit behind a bunch of rowdy, loud students. Ain't like the students deserve to be there anyway, bunch a poor students tryin to pay their way thru school. Everyone knows what I pay for tickets keeps the doors open at that school!
BTW,,, I'm being sarcastic.

I have to agree with you. We need something to get really excited about and the fans did not cause us to lose to Gardner Webb, UAB, and San Diego. If Duke were playing like UK is playing right now even the Cameron Crazies would not be excited either. Duke was a little down last year but not like we are right now.

It's ridiculous.
But it would be nearly impossible to change the culture that already exists.

You might be sitting in the lower part by yourself. Today's crowd is going to be pathetic. I have heard estimates in the 5-6k range. :thumbdn:

Well, look at it this way...
A chance to see us stick it to one of the greatest college football coaches of all time...or.....a chance to see us lose to yet another low major...
Do you really blame fans for choosing the MCB?

I guess I am what some of you call a bluehair. The only difference is that I sit in the upper arean, fortunately not too high. I do know a number of people in the lower arena. I guess that comes with age. Many of these people have supported UK basketball for many, many years, but now while they may not fit some people's idea of a UK fan, they have been there through thick and thin. They are not necessarily rich or connected, but supported UK from long, long ago, also filling Stoll Field, the forerunner of Commonwealth Stadium when UK football was in the pits. I am surrounded by people of all ages and descriptions, and, after reading comments on here, I often look down just out of couriosiy to the lower arena and see much of the same thing. I see upper arena "fans" leave early, not cheer, and spend much of their collective time going back and forth to the concession stand and leaving early. I stay to the end no matter how bad it was. I cheer almost just like I did when I saw Georgia Tech snap UK's twelve year home winning streak in 1955. But I am not as loud or as agile and do not get up probably like I use to. I suppose I should give up my pretty good seats so that those higher can move down. I, am concerned, however when I look at the student section, see it not filled, and tickets often available to general public not taken. And if I get a chance at a lower arena ticket, I like thousands of other am taking it because I have earned it.

No, there's not been much to cheer about, but when in the last 10 years has Rupp been a loud environment. Just posted about this on another thread. When I watch on TV, seems most are there just for the entertainment, like going to a movie. They've become so accustomed to sitting in their high price seats that they've forgotten how to be a "FANATIC". Only way to fix some of them is to take away their seat priviledges and make them earn their seat by standing in line like students and upper deck folks.
Maybe then they would appreciate the priviledge of UK Basketball.

Very well put. Good luck on getting into the lower arena. It is good to see a poster who truly knows UK basketball history. Not too many fans would know about GT breaking that home game winning streak. You are devoted and I admire that. I am not overly impressed with the team I have seen perform this year but I still bleed blue all the time and will until my dying day.

Well you can thank me for showing up in the lower arena today. See what a difference it makes! ;) jk
Seriously, I had a "blue hair" sitting in front of me, and she really tried to yell and stand, she gave it her all. A lot of the fans around me were supportive of the team, and tried to encourage Jared (especially in that double foul were he actually fought for the ball). Ppat nearly got an ovation every time he left the floor (DJ got a few as well).
My wife and I had a great time (we were glad that was the one game of the year we attended ). We went to the museum and she beat Richie Farmer in Virtual ball (Jeff Shepard didn't let me score :icon_redface:). She was raised in Las Vegas and has no clue of what UK basketball means, but she really enjoyed the game and is a fan for life now (with the same passion). So my fellow lower arena tickets holders.... Thanks, you have successfully evangleized a newcomer into a Wildcat Fanactic.:thumbup::widcat:

Well I just gotta say that yeah Rupp had a bunch of empty seats today but I expected that. However, I was there, and I think the crowd was loader today than they have been in a long time. Loadest game since the UNC game. That could be because we won by idk about 40 points! :D

I had posted a bit 30 minutes or so before game time and looked barren... but it did fill up a bit more after that it didn't look nearly as desolate as I expected. It was nice to see all of our players playing and to get a W.
Yeah estimated 6 eeeh? lol 19K :) we indeed have the best fans in the world.

what you have to realize though is that a lot of stadiums that most teams play in are pretty small....small being less than lets' say 15,000.....Cameron indoor only seats 9,314....that's why it sounds like 50 jet planes taking off, because it's pretty small and the acoustics factor and plus all the students are on the floor seats, so logically it's going to sound loud...Florida (gainesville) only seats about 12,000....and plus Rupp is used for tons of other applications besides basketball therefore it has to be the way it is....
jon scott's awesome page has a cool link to all the arenas UK has played in here http://bigbluehistory.net/bb/Statistics/arenas.html
i wish they'd have the eRupption zone AND all the floor seats for students and another eRupption zone in the other end....that whole section on the other end for students.....or just have one of the whole lower sections on one side of the court for the students, maybe opposite of where the players' benchs are....
what i want to see are more people holding SIGNS...i saw them today the Patrick patterson fan club poster that one guy had....you see all the blue and the face paint, that's cool, but we need to get signs back in operation....dont' know why, but it's just cool....
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! GO CATS, BEAT L-VILLE!!!

Excellent point...I was in Houston for our game and their gym holds about 8,200...they rocked that place...went I was a student at UK in the Memorial days we raised the roof quite often. Even in my advancing years I still scream my aspen off, however. ;)
