What are some of your opinions on why this team is not responding to Coach Gillispie? Obviously, it's something, and granted we are not privy to the behind the scenes action.

My opinion is that they don't know what he wants, and is never happy. Now, most coaches are never happy, but they can be positive at the same time. There doesn't seem to be a lot of warmth between player/coach.

It's hard to really pinpoint what's wrong since we don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but I personally think that it comes down to this: Tubby and Gillispie are two totally different beasts. Tubby (especially in his later years) was more calm and soothing (although he had his moments where he buckled down), whereas Gillispie is always after these players, and they just aren't responding well or aren't adjusting to the change. A guy like Patrick Patterson is going to handle it extremely well, but a guy like Joe Crawford may not. These players are all built to handle things differently and Gillispie hasn't figured out the proper way to treat each player individually.

Very well said! I learned a long time ago as a coach, that you have to learn that each player is motivated differently. Some guys respond to getting their ___ ripped, but others need to be fluffed up constantly. It's the coaches job to figure each player out as soon as possible.

I think they're responding, they're just injured, untalented, out of shape, or Patterson. Gillispie has only been able to practice with these guys since mid-October, I think it's too early to say they're not responding to him.

In the relaxed laid back style of our old coach. Now they are being pushed and pushed harder than they have ever been pushed in their lives and they don't like it at all. They are used to being coddled and Billy G. won't do that for them. He knows that the road to the NBA is paved with hard work for most players.

They sure responded TODAY. Of course we had our BEST lineup in today FOR THE FIRST TIME. Perhaps not being healthy is the problem instead of all this TRIPE about the players don't like the coach ,he doesn't know what he's doing Etc.

We have five pretty good players that we can now put on the floor together with Jasper and Meeks getting back. Meeks, Jasper, Crawford, Bradley and Patterson give us a pretty decent scoring starting five. Jasper gives this team a lot more flexibility than we had without him, has multiple talents as was shown today with getting ten rebounds, handling the ball extremely well and playing good solid defense. Porter can give some decent minutes off the bench as can Harris, Carter, Coury, Stevenson and Stewart, depending on matchups. Our talent is not as bad as we have seen play thus far this season. We are all going through a new era in Kentucky basketball with a new coaching staff and lets all hope we get this team fine tweeked soon and can see a good solid effort day in and day out from the players. Today is the first time this season that the team seemed to really enjoy playing together.

Here's something to think about! With the early game today, do you think Gillispie had the notorious pre-game practice? If he didn't, maybe that helps explain why they looked sharper today! Don't know if anybody can find that info out for us.

A very interesting question. The game day practices are the one thing about this coaches operationas that I DO question.
