UK as a team led the SEC this year in KO coverage, which is a team thing, but it was in no small part due to Tim's right leg.
Check this out:
> 20 out of his 77 KO's (26%) were touchbacks
> The rest of the SEC COMBINED got only 48 out of 771 (6%).
To me, this is a HUGE stat, because field position is the name of the game.

I agree! Coach Brooks gave him some love after what was supposed to be a pooch punt went out of the endzone. :shrug1: He is much more consistant on kick-offs than on punts.

I think #9 is going to be doing some kicking every game for us in 08, either punting or placekicking. But not KO's.

I saw that. I was wondering if Tim would have any hearing in his left ear after that. :p

I think those kickoffs were a large part of UK's success this season. Not a whole lot of 80 yard drives happen in college football these days.

Really good point, Larry. Let's make them have to go as far as we can.

No doubt, VirginiaBlue. Too, here's some LOVE for Tim! :icon_biggrin:
I have previously posted that I would not mind Tim's only having to do the kickoffs. That way he can use that strong leg every time and not worry about adjusting. The Music City Bowl was not the first time that Tim struggled with pooch kicks. In particular, last season he struggled several times, as we had punted from around the opponent's forty and ended up gaining only twenty yards. I would at least like for another kicker to be responsible for executing pooch kicks. Too, gerntz, I suspect we will be seeing Ryan Tydlacka on the field this next season, and I look forward to seeing him in action. :)
Yes, those touchbacks were HUGE for the Cats. Tim actually brought back nice memories of former Cat Clint Ruth. KUDOS to Tim Masthay! :)
