Senior tight end Jacob Tamme is the winner of the fifth-annual Bobby Bowden Award given by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The honor recognizes a Division I football player who epitomizes a student-athlete and conducts himself as a faith model in the community, in the classroom, and on the field. Nominees must have at least a 3.0 career grade-point average and be endorsed by the school’s head coach and director of athletics. The award is named after Florida State University coach Bobby Bowden, a long-time supporter of the ministry.
“Jacob has been an amazing leader on the field for our program, and his Christian character has been a great example for our entire department to follow,” said Mitch Barnhart, UK Director of Athletics. “We have been blessed to have him in our program and he will be difficult to replace.” “Jacob is as deserving of this honor as anyone I’ve ever known,” Coach Rich Brooks said. “He’s shown leadership in every phase of his life.”

I'm really happy for Jacob.
Is it just me or do any of you see a couple of strange ironies here?
1-The obvious, we beat FSU in the MCB.
2-Bobby Bowden, coach of the Criminoles, at Thugida State University, having an FCA award named after him.
Not saying the Coach Bowden isn't a good christian man, I know very little about him, just seems ironic to me.

Not really. I am a Youth Minister. Please don't judge me by what my youth do when I'm not around. And please don't judge my youth minister for what I did when he wasn't around. :)

I miss Tamme more with every article I read about him. I sure hope he gets to the NFL, if that's his aspiration.

Congratulations Jacob!!! What a great achievement.
Its a fact that Bowden is a man of faith. I personallly have not met the man but everybody that meets him(from what I have heard and read) does not have one bad word to say about him as a person.

Congratulations to Jacob Tamme, for sure. He earned this award and is most deserving of this honor.
But, at the same time, kudos to Coach Brooks as well. As Tamme himself has noted on more than one occassion, Tamme would not even have been at UK if not for Brooks.
In football, as in life, we can so often be so short-sighted. While many criticized Morris' apparent greed when he left, there was also a large segment who felt that Barnhart should have forked over the money to have kept him. Now, how many wish he would have stayed? I suspect those folks could hold their annual convention in a phone booth.

Jacob has been a great role model for UK on and off the field. Also, I really like Tamme's chances to make the NFL. But, I can't get excited about an award that is named after an active coach. I just don't get it? I would prefer he get the honor, but have it named something else. If it has to be named after a coach, how about one that is dead and gone, like the Bear Bryant award?

not a religious person here but here's lifting a glass of fine Kentucky bourbon to Jacob and his award. as if we couldn't be proud enough that he made first team SEC the last 2 years !!!! how many guys did that ???
I'll call him "Hands" and miss the hell out of the guy...we will be good next year but have some rather large shoes to fill at the TE position.

Congratulations to Jacob. A fine young man in every sense of the word. I will miss seeing him in the blue and white next year. My friends and family have watched Jacob play for many years now. After watching him catch every catch thrown his way at Boyle County High, and winning four State Championships, I always knew he could play for the Cats. Everyone knew that was his dream. I remember how disappointed he was when Coach Morris withdrew the scholarship offer, and how excited he and his family were when Coach Brooks reinstated the offer.
Congratulations also to Coach Brooks, and Joker for seeing Jacobs potential at tight end and developing him.
Jacob is a true "Kentucky Boy" who wanted with all his heart and soul to help bring around Kentucky Football. He and all the Seniors deserve all the accolades we can throw their way. They are truly a special group.
For the last four years my friends and I have stood and cheered "Boyle County Boy" every time Jacob made a catch or a touchdown. We could not be prouder. We will miss him with all our hearts but hopefully we will be able to watch him play at the next level and then after football, succeed at all life throws his way.
I will alway be a Jacob Tamme fan.
GO BIG BLUE!!!

I have been wondering for a while now when Boyle County, a true hotbed for football, is going to send another excellent football player and young man like Jacob our way. What gives?:shrug1:

Thanks for the link, bleedbluelady. I have just sat here alone and repeatedly screamed, "HE WON IT!" :icon_biggrin: Now I must go tell Mr. Poodoo, as I had mentioned to him how badly I wanted Jacob to win the award.
Reading such MAKES MY DAY! Too, NO ONE could deserve the award more than Jacob Tamme. :)
CONGRATULATIONS, Jacob, and THANK YOU, again, for being the outstanding young man you are OFF the field (besides your outstanding play ON the field). May God bless you and your lovely wife Ashley throughout your lives.
