...in the SEC? Overall in the conference, I think it would be tough most years. Dang, they really suck in championship games.

The Big 10 has been down the past couple of years but don't overlook the historic strength of their conference.

Ohio State has an incredible fan base, a solid recruiting effort and would be a contender in any conference. While they may not win the game this year, keep in mind, nobody thought going into the year that they would be playing in this game, this was as much of a surprise to Buckeye fans as anyone.

They might, they beat Michigan 14-3 and Michigan beat Florida. They beat Wisconsin who played Tennessee very close. Let's not forget, OSU gets top-10 classes every season - they aren't chopped-liver.

The hard part about the SEC is you play someone who can beat you almost every week.

Ohio State, IMHO, would be very competitive in the SEC, as would Michigan. The sore spot for me is that lately the Big10 has two and
just perhaps 3 ligitimately strong teams. Usually two. The SEC can put
four teams almost every year in the BCS if they were allowed. This year,
you could make a case for Tennessee, Georgia, LSU and Florida.
Next year you could probably throw Auburn and just maybe Bama in that mix. Kentucky with quite a few breaks might even sneak in.

From what I've seen in the bowl season, Kentucky and Mississippi State could very well have competed for the league championship in the Big East or ACC this year, and would have been competitive behind Michigan and
Ohio State in the Big 10.

I think you guys are getting a little ahead of yourselves. The Big 10 always has 2-3 teams that are very strong, the SEC has generally 3-4. While the edge definitely goes to the SEC, that's far different than making the statement that you could lose every week. UK has made strides, and I'm proud of the Wildcats, but we have a lot to prove before acting like we're in the upper half of our conference.

I think top to bottom, the SEC is the best.

The difference is the middle and bottom of the Big 10 is terrible. The have several schools with small fan bases and lousy teams. OSU would still be in the elite of the SEC they just wouldn't have the gaudy record they have had the last two years. They would lose a game or two like everyone else in the SEC. It is incredibly rare for a team to go undefeated in the SEC. It happens much more regularly in the Big 10 and Big 12. The SEC is not worlds better than everyone else, but when you start looking at the coaches, the fan bases and the money involved in SEC football you can see why it is so tough. The same teams are good every year in the Big 10, OSU, Mich and Wisc. Occasionally you have another team rise up but they never stay. In the SEC UF, LSU, Auburn, UT & UGA have all had championship caliber teams plus sustained success. That is a lot of elite teams. Now you have Spurrier at USC, Petrino at Ark. Saban at Alabama, so you have three elite level coaches at middle tier SEC schools. Add in MSU and UK improving and you have a hell of a tough league.

On a consistent basis, I strongly agree that we are not "in the upper half of the conference," BrassowFan. THIS SEASON, though, we finished at #18 in Sagarin ratings, which was SIXTH among the twelve SEC teams (following Auburn at #13 and UT at #15). What's still a shame, of course, is that overtime field goal's being blocked against UT, which put UT at #12 in the final AP poll with four losses and UK unranked at #28 with its five losses. So close, but so far to accomplishing something really special in the postseason.

Regardless, again, this season we were in the upper half of the SEC, as we had been LAST season. That makes it the case for TWO straight years, actually. I think some UK fans may not be aware of how well we have RECENTLY competed in the SEC (and, yes, we were sub-500 this year, but while competing in a ridiculously tough SEC East and still the SIXTH-highest ranked, overall). Now we must CONTINUE to do the same, of course, or better yet, better.

By the way, someone mentioned that Michigan beat Florida, which it certainly did. YET, I still wonder how much Coach Carr's retirement affected that game's outcome. Those players LOVED the man and were most obviously playing SO HARD for him. Personally, I am so thankful that Bobby Bowden had not announced his retirement before our game, as some here had thought was the case.

Any folks more interested in a Big Ten/SEC comparison might enjoy Pat Forde's column in another thread. GO CATS! GO SEC!

Bowl records for the last 2 bowl seasons:

Big Ten has won 5 games and lost 10.

SEC has won 13 and lost 5.

SEC has 2 National Champs

Tenn was a 2 point favorite over Wis and won by 4.

Ohio State is 0-9 against SEC in bowl games.

Michigan beat Fl. The QB set all sort record for passes and yardage. If they played that way against Ohio State who knows and Carr's retirement.

The Big Ten lost the Rose and BCS bowl games the last 2 years. They got their arsusses kicked all over field in those 4 games.

What we have hereeee is a confernce that can not count their number of teams.
