I heard it today and couldn't believe it but I heard it from more than one reliable source. Boyle County High School will have a press conference Friday to name the former UK Head Coach their new football coach.

They have been looking for a new coach since the resignation of Coach Pardue to go to be an assistant at Campbellsville College. Coach Morris still owns property in the Perryville area that he bought when he was coach at UK. He never sold the property.

I don't know how to post links but there is an article about it in today's Danville paper. You can find it at AMnews.com.

I suppose stranger things have happened.

GO BIG BLUE!!!

Boyle courts former UK head coach
By LARRY VAUGHT
larry@amnews.com
Former University of Kentucky and Baylor University head football coach Guy Morriss apparently plans to come here on Thursday to interview for the head coaching position at Boyle County.

Several sources confirmed to The Advocate-Messenger on Tuesday that Morriss would be here to talk about the Boyle job that came open when Chris Pardue resigned last month to become the offensive coordinator at Campbellsville University.

High school principal Elmer Thomas confirmed Tuesday that an unnamed candidate would be here Thursday to talk about "contract negotiations" but that nothing was finalized on a new coach. However, Thomas said tentative plans were being made for a Friday afternoon press conference to introduce a new coach.

Maybe he's just tired of the college grind. He wouldn't be the first college coach to go back to high school coaching. If that's what he wants to do, more power to him.

I think it has more to do with location than anything else. He owns a farm in Perryville, which is a short distance from Boyle Co. h.s., and he has stated repeatedly that he plans on coming to Ky. to live when he retires. LEX18 reported on this today and stated he has been seeking an oline coaching position in either the college or NFL ranks. Coaching in h.s. would almost be like retirement compared to college or the pros.

I've got no love for the guy(no pun intended) that was part of the crew that jumped ship and left our program in shambles. Downward spiral seems about right, an elite high school program compared to college and the NFL is still just high school.

Can't blame him for that! I always supported Guy and hated to see him leave, although I think the media (and some fans) gave Barnhart a bum deal on how that all went down. In retrospect, it was probably best.

Anyway, he left for big bucks - and you can't blame a person for that. The way I see it, if I were in Texas and Kentucky came calling (with more money) I'd sure come back home. Well...so did he.

Now it looks like he's coming back to his new home.

I wish him well

If I was in Texas, and Ky. came calling, I'd come back for the same, or possibly, less money.

Don't coaches have to teach also? I wonder what it would be like to have him as your teacher.

He's a rich enough man (if he's been responsible with his money) that he can afford to take a step down like this. He'll supposedly be paid around 60k a year, which in Boyle County will probably go a long way.

I'm pretty sure high school head coaches have to teach, also, so the lion's share of that salary is for the teaching part not being the HC. Kentucky is on the bottom end of the teacher's salaries so it couldn't be for the money, especially after what he's used to earning.

Couple things...
1) Head coaches no longer have to be teachers. That used to be the case 10 years ago, but in the meantime that rule has been taken out, mainly because really small high schools were finding it very hard to have a qualified coach for all the various sports.

and 2) I'm sure GuyMo doesn't need the money after the contract he got from Baylor.

I just had an interesting (to me anyway) thought. If Morris should take the job at Boyle Co. I wonder if he harbors any ill will toward UK to the extent he would try to steer anyone away from UK that we would be recruiting?

1. Why would Guy have any ill will toward UK, the program that gave him his first HC job?

2. Let's not forget that he was originally part of Mumme's staff and didn't have to be retained in the first place.

3. I have a lot of ill will towards Guy Moriss, for leaving the team short handed, especially on O Linemen. Personally, I would have cut and run for more money just like old Guy, especially given the fact that he didn't recruit any linemen for the past two years.

I'm sure that Guy's got plenty of money left over from the Baylor deal and he can retire to Boyle Co. and begin collecting his NFL pension which should be pretty decent as well.
I just find it hard to believe that he will be going from Div I back to high school but hey, it's his life.

I suspect there may be some ill will, boomdaddy. I believe GuyMo wanted UK to outbid Baylor for his services, so he could have the fat contract and stay at UK as well.

"He has flown home to talk to his wife before giving us a final answer," said Spears, who added that he did not attend the interview and that it did not take place in Boyle County. "The candidate does not have a specific timeline. He may let us know tomorrow, and it may be the first of next week."

Guy Morriss has turned down a chance to coach the Boyle County High School football team.

“Timing is everything and the timing is just not right,” said Boyle superintendent Steve Burkich tonight after Morriss informed him that he was not taking the job. “We had serious discussions that may not have happened anywhere else except a place with the strong tradition and athletics excellence of this area.

Guy Morriss may still love the Bluegrass, but he won't be coaching Kentucky high school football.

Morriss turned down a job offer Monday to coach at Boyle County high school in Danville, Ky., the school's athletic director said.

"We're terribly disappointed," Boyle County athletic director Jim Spears said. "A gentleman and coach with his experience and resume, the value it would have brought not just to our football team but our school and community, it would have been a tremendous opportunity.

"But we respect his wishes for this not being the right time."
