Surely, you can't expect him to land every single recruit he goes after. Even the most unrealistic fan can't expect that, can they? Guess what, in recruiting, kids very often decide to play for a school that's closer to home and it has nothing to do with the coach, the school, the team, or anything else. Give me a break!

I once worked with a general contractor as an estimator. I'm sure glad I didn't get fired the first time I bid on a project and didn't get it.

I am not sure we were ever on his short list. However, I could be wrong..

I don't see why anyone would find it strange that a Calif. kid would prefer UCLA over UK. I would find it strange if he didn't. I'm sure most Calif. kids grow up dreaming of playing for UCLA just like most Ky. kids grow up dreaming of playing for UK.
Some people just need to try that real hard to do thing before posting .

WOW, where were all of you logical recruiting analysts when Tubby lost out on players here and there? Man, I guess BG gets a pass until he loses out on 2 more targets.

Tubby got no free passes from me, nor does coach G., but to wonder why coach G. couldn't get a Calif. kid to pass on UCLA just doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't really get the digs at BCG and his recruiting. Fine you don't like the way the season going but that has absolutely nothing to do with recruiting at this juncture. BCG has commitments from the '08, '09 and '10 classes. He also has KY on ALOT of top-flight kids lists in every class.

No big deal here. I don't expect BCG to pull many kids out of California.
Geography is very important to these kids. That is one reason I think UK screwed up by not going after OJ Mayo last year. Regardless whether you believe the hype or hoopla about OJ, there is no question he could have helped this team tremendously this year. Then, he would have been 1 and done and a nice NBA star to point to and help in recruiting.

OJ had Hollywood on the brain. He wanted to do his one year in a high profile market. He recruited himself to SC. He called up Tim Floyd. I don't think anyone else had a chance. (This is not me knocking the kid. He's a great player, but if the one year rule didn't exist then he'd be raking in millions playing for the Knicks or some other god awful NBA team. He wanted to be in the best position to get the big endorsements next year. Hollywood affords him that.)

Are you serious - I love my Big Blue but to say that it is amazing the BG could not get a CA kid to come to us over UCLA and wondering why that would happen? How about top 10 right now, has gone deep in the last couple seasons in NCAA, close to home, 10 NC, .... some would argue that they are as storied a program as we are (not me though) we have enjoyed success over many more years. UCLA is not a bad school for basketball especially for Californians. This kid will not be expected to play immediately as they have a deep bench also.
I see us under BG making a rise not unlike them over the past few years. Will take time but we will be back.

If you'll go back and read my posts you'll see you misunderstood what I said. I never said anything that would indicate I was amazed that the kid is signing with UCLA. In fact, I said just the opposite.

You probably did since his team was in town to play a local team or tournament (forget which?). Ironic that he verballed to UCLA a week before he traveled to Lexington.
