NASHVILLE - Shagari Alleyne had scored 13 points since pouring in a career-high 16 points against Georgia State on Dec. 6. Yet he wasn't surprised he affected Kentucky's 68-61 victory over Alabama in the Southeastern Conference Tournament yesterday.
"No, I wasn't surprised at all," he said when asked about how his five points and two blocks ignited UK's come-from-behind victory. "That's what happens in a basketball game."
Alleyne, the tallest player in UK basketball history, came to the rescue. Fouls limited starting center Randolph Morris to five first-half minutes. Backup Lukasz Obrzut was not effective.
So in came Alleyne, who played in only four of Kentucky's final 13 games of the regular season.
