While on his official visit last weekend to the University of Kentucky, Leesburg High linebacker Danny Trevathan kept calling Leesburg coach Charles Nassar to give him updates. Excitement grew in Trevathan's voice with each phone call.
Nassar knew that Trevathan liked what he was seeing.
On Wednesday, Trevathan became the second football player from Lake County to make an oral commitment to a college. Trevathan said he would play his college football at Kentucky. He is expected to sign with the Wildcats on NCAA Signing Day, Feb. 6.

Lake County? Is that the county that Lake City is in? UF signed 9 players from Lake City HS last year.
Lake County? Is that the county that Lake City is in? UF signed 9 players from Lake City HS last year.
Trevathan was the most heavily recruited player at Leesburg since running back Tory Harrison signed with the University of Southern Mississippi two years ago.
"He has the kind of things that colleges look for," Nassar said. "He has the height, the size and the speed. He has all those qualities. He plays 100 miles per hour, and he has tremendous growth potential.
Trevathan has been starting at linebacker for Leesburg since the midway point of his sophomore year. This season, he had 117 tackles and 5.5 quarterback sacks, and he missed only six tackles all season. As a junior, he had 96 tackles, caused five fumbles and had 17 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. In five games as a sophomore, he had 39 tackles.
I like guys that can get somewhere in a hurry and be in a bad mood when they arrive!
I think this kid sees the field as a true freshman. Even with our depth at LBer I don't think you can keep tackling machines likes this off the field....

At 215 pounds he might need a year in the weight room, but with that kind of speed, he might be an asset on Special Teams. In either case, this sounds like a very nice get for the Cats.

"It was the nicest family environment there. Everybody was showing me love when I was up there. It was like I was already a part of the team. It was like they really wanted me." QUOTE

That FAMILY environment helps UK in recruiting. KUDOS to the UK coaches and players for creating that environment, and welcome, Mr. Trevathan.

On the surface, this sounds like a really nice pickup. I love his comments, too, Poo.

"I want to bring the motor to their program," Trevathan said. "I am going to play with a lot of energy.
"They told me I remind them a lot of [Wesley] Woodyard [a senior linebacker at Kentucky] because of the way I fly all over the field."
Oh, how I hope. :)

Count me in with you, bleedbluelady. Actually, I would love to see a Wesley-Woodyard "clone" both on and off the field. :icon_mrgreen: By the way, Larry Vaught has mentioned that quarterback commitment Deaunte Mason is definitely in the Wesley Woodyard mold as a young man and leader. :)
Again, I LIKE what I read about Mr. Trevathan. :)
