View Full Version : Noticed something about Morris' foul trouble

It hit me today why Morris always gets into foul trouble: Man-to-Man. He ends up chasing someone up around the top of the key 19-22 feet away from the basket because that is his man. If we were able to rebound out of zone and match up well, that would be the key and we would be able to make a solid run. But with him getting into foul trouble and missing most of many first halves, you have to wonder how bad the rebouding is vs. what we lose with him out of the game. I don't know what the solution is other than him not being out there at all. I'm not overly threatened by a center shooting the three ball most of the time. There are exceptions of course, but as a general rule, most centers don't jack those shots up there. Just my opinion.
Edit: The other problem with it is that he ends up getting in on a switch that pulls him up there as well...

he is foul prone...but he's a soph. he has improved immensely on offense though. you have to give him credit there. he definitely made the right choice coming back, because he is going to dominate jr or sr year

I'm not knocking his play or anything. I agree completely with what you said. I just was talking about his foul problems. He is truly a solid player and can't wait to see what he has for us in the future. I apologize if I made this appear to be a knocking Randolf Morris thread. It is merely observational.

I have also noticed that he gets called for a lot of touch fouls where as the big men he plays against get to bang on him throughout the game. Baulkman was all over Morris today.
Another thing about Morris' foul trouble relates to hiw the officials are calling it. Nine times out of ten SEC refs don't let anything go on the inside in an effort seeming on their part to 'maintain control' of the game. I don't thnik this was the case today but it has been the case too many times this year. I'd swap SEC refs for the Big East or Big Ten in a heart beat, they let play flow on the indside.
All of the above said Morris always can be counted on for two stupid fouls, one for slapping down at the ball and one for an arm check at the top of the key.

He sticks his hands and arms out there and makes the mistake of leaning over guys. He has picked up a couple fouls that were not fair this weekend, but his fouls are almost always because he is not moving his feet when he needs to.

Hey, but no single play effected the outcome of the game!!! ;)

I't seems most teams know that the only offensive threat we have inside is Morris so they try to take the ball at him and get him in early foul trouble (Which has worked alot this year). So I'm wondering why Tubby hasn't tried moving Randolph to power forward and rotating Woo, Shag and Carter underneath on the defensiveend at least early in the game to keep Morris out of foul trouble?

I don't understand this particular post, but if it refers to another thread, and you are mad about that thread, I suggest you get over it. To try and make a point that no one agrees with, then insist YOU are right, and then carry it on to other threads, is rather obsessive. Move on with your life.

the last game Shag played really well, but for most of the year we haven't seen him. to me, we could really rotate these guys in and out frequently, and keep Morris out of foul problems.

And, he would be out on the court where he gets a lot of dumb reaching fouls. It's a problem that we all hope will be taken care of as he matures.

Maybe Shaq anchoring the middle with Sims and Morris each on a wing.
