View Full Version : Ever smoke a "Fatty"?
OK, it's not exactly what you might think. It's a roll of Jimmy Dean or Bob Evans sausage stuffed with cheese, peppers, sun dried tomatoes, whatever your heart desires, rolled into a loaf, seasoned and slow smoked. I found this on the National BBQ News forum and it's got me intrigued.

Sorry, it sounds revolting.
It does sound like an artery clogger :icon_mrgreen:

Indeed. Revolting and artery clogger aren't mutually exclusive.
Sounds delicious. I'd imagine it to be akin to sausage balls, but not so dry.
This might give me an excuse to fire up the smoker in order to try as a Super Bowl party appetizer of sorts.

No more a clogger than Paula Deen's Bacon Cheeseburger Meatloaf I made Monday. It was yummmy! Just don't eat like this every day. Could you slow cook your "fatty" in a regular grill on low? You know I gotta try it:)

Sure you could. When you say "regular" grill, you talking charcoal or gas?
If it's gas, merely place the meats at the opposite end of the burner(s) you'll be using. For any smoky flavor you might want to get a wood chip box to use.
If it's charcoal, merely fashion the coals for indirect heating, either place the meat on one side of the grill and coals on the other. If the shape of the grill warrants it, you can place a drip pan in the center of the coal grate, and surround the drip pan with charcoal. Fill the pan about half full with water and place the meat on the grill directly over the drip pan. Soaked wood chips could be scattered on the white coals.

I may have to start a thread just based on Paula Deen. Gawd I love that woman (and her jawja accent).

I'm with you "Brian McCat"...yuck, absolutely NO processed meats for this girl...although if I'd smoked a real fatty, I'd probably eat just about anything, including this. lol :icon_lol:
My cooking indulgences are desserts...we don't eat them at home so I have to make them for the holiday's or for other special occasions...remind me to tell y'all about the Italian Orange Creme cake I made for the folks this Christmas...it was incredible, if I do say so, myself.

Oh, I do too...am waiting for her to one day announce (in said Jawja accent), "next we're gonna make some deep-fried lawrd, with a mayonnaise creme sauce..." My cholesterol skyrockets simply from hearing her describe the recipes. :icon_lol:

Hey ya'll. All in moderation. Didn't eat the entire meatloaf:shock: Have to admit when I make it next time, will cut down on the cheese.
Surveyor...I have a stainless steel Ducane gas grill. 3 burners. Have a wood chip box I use a lot because I like mesquite. Thanks.
