View Full Version : McAdoo visit tonight
Our coaches are in the home of Michael McAdoo, DE from Antioch TN tonight. This young man is 6-7 220 and highly rated. I am hearing rumblings that things have gone very well and we may be on the brink of converting another tennessean to the big blue.

Wow, could this be the second coming of Art Still?
I think he could knock down a few passes with that height.

That's way too high an expectation to set on anybody. Mr. Still is incomparable. Reggie White was the only one in the same league, IMO.
I'll be overjoyed with anything close.

I'm surely hoping for that to become official. I just read on another thread that Mr. McAdoo narrowed his possible choices to UK and North Carolina yesterday.

Still a way to go. We'll have to see what kids still want to come to Kentucky and develope.
Could be possible that McAdoo would have been asked to redshirt or greyshirt because of the limited schollies.

No way they ask him to grayshirt. Man, that really, really, REALLY sucks.

Sorry about my rather terse response above, but I just don't think I would want to be a recruiter. This is just so frustrating.
I mean, no one wanted to lose Bohannon to UT, but at least that made a LITTLE sense. I mean, I don't like UT and most of y'all really hate UT, but if you step back and try to look at things objectively, UT is still UT and they are still a formidable player. While none of us like it, I think we can at least understand how we can lose a recruit to UT. But, there is no way we should be losing football recruits to UNC and the ACC, especially when a kid says he wants to play in the SEC.
First we lose Bohannon because he does not want to play too much and then we lose McAdoo because he can see himself play "4 or 5 years at UNC." (I don't know how he is going to work out that 5-year thing, but ...).
Recruiters have to be a pretty special breed to put up with the strange thought processes of 18-year olds.
Oh well ...

Redshirting would not help the scholarship limit situation.
And I can't believe we would have only offered a greyshirt.
Think it's just a case of him want to go to UNC instead of UK.

Why would he not want to go to UT? Does he not want to spend time in jail with all his teammates there?

Probably right. Just reaching for an excuse in a disappointing situation.
North Carolina has a fine tradition of defensive players (except for right now, I can't think of anyone but Lawrence Taylor), and McAdoo might well be able to dominate in the ACC.
Course, could be he liked that color blue better too.

I was too for awhile, poodoo....keep reminding yourself:
UK has had two and three star players for the past few seasons, Notre Dame has had 5 star and a few 4's. How's the records compare the past couple of years?
LSU had the best players in the country, right?
The football team still has a strong base.
The coaching staff has proven more than adept at changing a player's
position to not only develop the player, but help the team.
I was concerned for a time, but I believe I'll kick back for a season or two and see what this staff develops.
Good news is, it looks like by and large the staff is getting quality kids
for a quality program.
Keep the faith, folks. I've eaten enough crow (and it was delicious) thanks to this coaching staff that I'm going to have faith in what they
can turn these young men into.

Good Take Bill.
I also fall trap to the STAR score keeping and sometimes find myself doubting our ability and our progress. I need to keep reminding myself of the success we have achieved with the tools we have at hand and that a solid foundation has been constructed over the past few years.
I'll be excited come signing day and will welcome each and every recruit that chooses to wear the Kentucky Royal Blue. And then I'll be looking forward to spring practice.

Can't keep counting on luck.
If we can't upgrade our recruiting after the last two years, we're never gonna do it.
Time for 4-stars to become the norm, not the exception.

"Can't keep counting on luck."
Luck hasn't had anything to do with UK's results the past couple years. It's been coaches knowing a football player when they see one, regardless of what anybody else has to say about the player, and players working hard to learn the game, improve as players, and stay eligible. Oldest and surest formula for success there is. If signing a bunch of 4 star HS players was a guarantee of success, Notre Dame and UT and FSU and Miami would have been in the BCS this year.

I keep hearing the mantra that we need to get or start establishing a pattern of getting 4 star recruits. BUT, this is not really what we need here. I am not saying we don't need 4-stars... we can always use them. However, our past two years have showed that the starters can take on anyone in the country, especially this past year's squad. The key word: starters. What we need is depth at EVERY position. I am fine with getting some 2 star recruits and mostly 3's as long as the staff continually molds and develops these players into better players then their rankings indicate.
Now, the lost of Bohannon and McAdoo stings bc the DL is a very hard position to get top-flight athletes on Ky's campus. This is my real concern. We need to fight tooth and nail for the kid's we think will help our program and we need to get quality DL's every year.

I so agree, Coldstream. Too, those two losses on the defensive line thus hurt. For example, Dewayne Robertson was a huge part of the Cats' success in Morriss' last year. That team's success was not merely because of its offensive talent.
Also, I especially hurt FOR the coaching staff. Yes, I think we have FINE coaches and feel sure that they fought "tooth and nail" for those guys. Such recruiting losses just happen sometimes. Again, though, I could use some GOOD news.

Excellently said, sardiscat. Too, it should be most obvious that the UK football team has FAR overachieved its talent rankings. Further, that is because of the coaching staff, including its knack for properly evaluating talent, including taking the recruits' attitude and character into consideration. GO CATS! GO COACH BROOKS!

I hope my post was not misleading. I have definitely NOT lost the faith. :) Too, personally, I haven't had to eat any crow, for I'm one of those behind Coach Brooks from day one.
When I had said that I was disappointed in the losses the past few days, I had meant that I was disappointed FOR our coaching staff. We've all seen what they can do without the highly ranked players. However, I would LOVE for them to have the chance to show what they can do with a greater number of very talented players. I would love for them to be able to play on a more even playing field.
I feel sure the UK coaches had worked hard to convince these guys to become Cats. I feel sure that the UK coaches themselves feel disappointed today. Yet, thanks for trying to make me feel better. :)
Yes, again, I have a lot of faith in what the UK coaches can do with the recruits who do choose to become Cats. Regardless, I'm still hoping for some GOOD NEWS to read by Signing Day next Wednesday, along with the recruits we already expect to become Cats.

I really liked what Mike Golic had to say several months ago on Mike and Mike in the Morning. Golic said his dad had been a football coach and had been getting all kinds of information on kids: height, weight, 40 time, agility drills, how far they could throw in practice, etc. Golic said his dad said "y'know, all that's great, but I want to put pads on the kids and see if they're football players."
I think I get overwhelmed with all the stars by player's names anymore no
matter if they're football or basketball participants. What I should be worried about is if they are players.
Past couple of years, our participants have turned into players.
Poodoo, you are probably one of the last people I would ever imagine losing their faith in the UK programs.:icon_biggrin:

Thanks, billoliver40. Too, I so agree with your point. In fact, we should see some of those guys who indeed were "players" when wearing their pads do well on Draft Day. It is absolutely far more than the number of stars by a player's name. If a football coach, give me Wesley Woodyard, Keenan Burton, Jacob Tamme, and Rafael Little (and Andre had four stars) any day of the week. GO CATS! GO BROOKS!
