Anyone have a trip planned to The Stone this year? It's my favorite place and I will be there the third week of June. If you go, climb Avalanche Peak for a view that cannot be removed from you memory.

Yellowstone is one of the few places in this country I have not been too. I hope to get there in the next few years. I would like to ride a motorcycle out there if they are allowed.

They sure are...if that's your mode of travel I would reserve cabins in the park as camping with a cycle would be difficult because of securing your food or cooler (griz).

Every campground where I've stayed inside YNP provides a bear-proof-locker for every individual site.

Thanks Kenny...I haven't camped there in fifteen years and the lockers are a great idea and addition. One time in the 80's while camping at Bridge Bay I woke to see bear prints on the truck of my car. Fortuneately :icon_rolleyes::icon_rolleyes: I was in a tent with a drunk Uncle Dirty and no bear in it's right mind would want to go there.

lol...with all the snoring that was probably going on in there, the bear may have thought a bear bigger than him was in the tent.

Uncle Dirty is one of my best friends and was also a good friend of Mel's. Our first night in Yellowstone he opened one of my bottles of bourbon and threw the top away saying we have no further use of it. After finishing the bottle I got him as far as the tent and he fell flat at the entrance. I had to roll him into the tent and into his sleeping bag. However, he deposited all the dirt in my bag so I had to get out of the tent and shake it out all the while cussing at him...all I heard were snores

I must say, I resent Mr. Wagners assasination of my good character.
I was meerly trying to lure in that big ol ugly bear so I could spit
Moonshine in his eye.
He is right about one thing, the Stone is a cupcake. Check it out.

The bears are even worse in the Yosemite campgrounds, but it's still the most beautiful of all the US National Parks IMO. The view from Glacier Point is not to be missed, and Yosemite Falls will take your breath away.

I flew into San Francisco last Thursday and went right over Glacier Point. It was beautiful from the air, I can only imagine what it would be like to stand there and take it in.

You were too drunk to have seen anything, much less a bear :icon_rolleyes:
And as far as you and good character goes all I will say is THAT you are a character.

That is cool, I watched it this morning and saw people ski by taking pictures.

Old Faithful is okay, if you like glorified water fountains, but really, there are so many more spectacular sights in Yellowstone that the famous geyser was a bit of a letdown IMO. The most interesting thing about Old Faithful was watching all the people watching the geyser. lol

As long as it's just the geyser blowing, that's cool. I just hope that I'm long gone before Yellowstone decides to blow and take out much of North America.

I love the colorful hot springs around OFG. Prefer sitting on hillside above Norris Geyser Basin & watching all the different ones go off.
Evenings around sunset on Y-stone River between lake & falls are wonderful with all the wildlife - moose, bears, elk, etc - coming out of woods down to the river to drink. The swans & beavers are cool too.
Yes, best NP there is. Nothing matches it's variety. It's been a while though.

Vern, I love the drive between Canyon and Lake through the Hayden Valley and as you noted, between sunset and darkness it is an amazing place to be...I have seen wolf, griz, moose, bison, elk, beavers, otters, trumpeter swans and bald eagles among others in the Hayden. The Midway Geyser Basin, north of Old Faithful, has the Grand Prismatic Spring which is a wonderland of colors...Yellowstone is heaven to me.

A memory etched in stone was seeing a trumpter swan on the Yellowstone River as the sky was pink with the sunset colors.
