Another Potential 2008 Big Man

Scout.com reports today that Kentucky has begun speaking with and looking at 2008 Chicago Big Man Steve Goins. Goins is 6′10″ 230 pounds and has risen up the charts during his senior season, thanks to improved play and the fact that guys who wait until the end of their senior year always get more attention. He is averaging only 12 points a game, but cleans up on the glass, taking down 15 boards a game. Right now his only offers are from Midwestern mid-majors such as Illinois-Chicago, but a number of top teams are looking at him, including Kentucky and Minnesota. Tracey Webster is following the kid and stays in communication with him. No offer has been given, but it looks as if Goins is one of a number of big men that Kentucky is deciding between to get a late offer.

I think this is all we need in a big man. Someone who can give us 10 and 10. Just enough to know you cant double Patterson and someone to help on the glass. While itd be nice to have another Patterson, there just isnt one out there

I think another skill any big needs to have is passing. If we can get one with this, our hi lo becomes more potent.

I get the impression that BCG is building a wishlist of big men. He has a top choice (not sure who?), but is making sure he has a back up plan as well.

He understands that we need another big man and will sign one. It will be the highest player on his wishlist that will commit.

Heard about this kid. Could be a sleeper. A good steal if we get him. Especially to not let him go to play for Tubby. His stock is rising.
