I just read this in the Cincinnati Inquirer this morning. Hope it's nothing someone else has already posted

Rumor is we are waiting to hear other school's pitches and his interest in them. Then we are going to go at him 100% with a pitch suited just for him.

Scotty Hopson will in all likelihood sign with Tennessee, if he signs at all with another SEC school other that Mississippi State...a school he had verbally committed (but not signed a LOI) to.
Scotty is a tremendous talent and from what I hear in Hopkinsville a fine
young man. He has had a reputation (warranted or not) of not giving full effort, and a past reputation (again, warranted or not) of being if not uncoachable, difficult to reach because of his unlimited talents and unlimited advisors.
Anything can happen in the recruiting world and usually does. I believe, though, that all Kentucky fans will be doing well to wish Scotty Hopson all the luck in the world when he signs with any school except Kentucky.

I really hope that UK signs this kid. He has too much talent. He would be a great addition to help PP.

He may be a "one and done" player, but with all the good players we're recruiting in the 2009 class, that might not be a bad thing. I hope we do make a push to sign him this spring.

Something tells me that he isn't recruiting Hopson for a reason. Billy G. isn't a fool and won't waste his time on players he doesn't think fit his program.

I agree. There just seems to be some reservation that BCG has with Hopson. Could be the family influence, who knows? Perhaps the other poster is correct, who said that BCG is waiting to trump the other offers. But that seems like quite a gamble to wait so long, if he truly wanted Hopson. It just looks like he either knows he has zero chance with him, or there is something he doesn't like about Hopson.

Maybe Gillespie read the same quote I did where SH said he wouldn't be worrried about playing time at UK with other signees playing his position as he knows he is already much better than them. Whether his statement is true or not, it is rude, its a red flag. Gillispie has described more than once the type of players he is looking for. Based on that, SH may not meet that profile, as talented as he is. SH is unproven in D-1, he could be Mr. Kentucky in high school and might fizzle out, we just don't know. I'm not suggesting he will, I'm stating he is still unproven in D-1, there is no guarantee. Nobody was bitching and moaning over Chris Lofton until he proved himself in D-1. I remember fans glooming and dooming because we didn't sign J.R. VanHoose. Antwain Barbour had three times the hype as SH and he never was what expectations indicated. If we sign SH(which I don't expect we will), I hope its for the right reasons, because the coach believes the kid can handle his coaching style as well as fit the mold he wants from a player.

As I've posted before, I've seen the kid once. You can't learn much by watching a player once. Could've been a bad night, the player might've not been feeling well -- who knows. And I saw him early in his junior year, so I'm sure he's improved.
But when I saw him, I kept having to ask the guy with me, "Which one is Hopson?"
Kid did little to nothing.
I hear he tears up AAU, and Lord knows we're going to need some offense next year, so I would be giddy to have him. But I would hope Gillispie is scouring for a big man, because we go nowhere without some help in the post, whether Hopson becomes a Cat or not.

You should see him now, then. You wouldn't have to ask which one he is. At the Madisonville North vs. UHA game a few weeks ago, the players could have all worn the same color jerseys with no numbers and anyone would have picked out Hopson as the best player in the gym. And, that's two teams with several legit D-1 guys on each.
He has just become a beast. He was always talented, but, seemed to lose focus from time to time. He is just a man among boys now.

UHA is playing Hazard in the All A title game today. BCG is in attnedance. If he's not there for Hopson, who would he be there to see?

Heights has quite a few players. Edmonson is a D-1 prospect for 09.
I really believe the reasons that Kentucky has not recruited SH are many:
no interest from the previous staff....Scotty's committment to State....
no real knowledge by Gillispie, Cyprien or any other of the new staff...
of course, there was a negative situation or two from last year that
caused some concern... and actually, most people (and no, I have by no means spoken with any of the Hopson family) have always said that Kentucky was NOT Scotty's favorite school of choice.
Youngster has talent to burn. Current coaching staff tell everyone he's been a dream to work with this season. Heard he was a solid, solid student.
Just doesn't seem to have a burning desire to play at UK.
And THAT could sum up the major reason the recruitment has been
negligible.

Can anybody say Alex Legion? Same type of player doesn't like a lot of discipline, which has been stated. The CATS are looking for team players not individuals.
:widcat::widcat: Go CATS!!!
As a UT fan, I hope we can get him with Lofton and J. Smith leaving.

Call me crazy, but after watching University Heights Academy play four games in the All “A” Classic, I like the college potential of Blazers’ 6-foot-4 senior guard Tyshwan Edmondson more than that of 6-6 senior swingman Scotty Hopson.

He's going to have to de-commit from MSU before Coach will recruit him, as Coach alluded to in his press conference today.

Billy should be careful about gettting this kid.
His attitude is not the best.
We don't need another wasted roster spot(Alex Legion).

Edmondson is good, but they're not giving him any respect on the rankings. That's the only reason people seem to want Hopson. Edmondson is only being recruited by schools like EKU and Morehead State. More likely to see him at EKU than UK. Unless UK offers. Hopson needs to de-commit. Then come show us that the numbers don't lie.

According to some things I have read, Hopson has "officially" re-opened his recruitment and de-commited from MSU. Kind of funny to me that this happens AFTER Coach says he doesn't recruit commited players. Seems like Hopson might just want to be a Cat after all and this is his way of showing Coach that.

I doubt very seriously that Scotty goes to uT. UK is more the likely destination.
