Kenny still has trouble giving credit where it's due. He talked about how bad of a road team we are. Of course not many teams go into Bloomington, the Hump and the O-Dome and win. We also didn't have Patterson for the Houston game.

Admit it Kenny, BCG is a great coach and blue skies are ahead.

I've heard a lot of fans complaining about Walker, BUT I heard him get on Tubby pretty good more than a few times.

I just think he looks at things with a bit of a pessimistic eye, which a lot of folks who post on boards or call in to talkshows do. I admit that I haven't listened to the show that much, but I don't really buy it.

However is letting his friendship with Tubby cloud his judgement at this time. Billy G. is a outstanding road coach.......you don't go into Allen Fieldhouse and win without being one. Billy G. won at Allen and Tubby got ran out of the building like a poodle fighting a pit bull.

Kenny is very, very close with the Smiths and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But, he seems to hold a grudge against UK and the fans and is reluctant to get on the BCG bandwagon. :shrug1:

He's not a true Cat if he can't let go of the past and support the precious present. I would have expected more from Sky Walker.:icon_rolleyes:

No offense, but no one on this board can question Sky's dedication to the Cats. No one.

Kenny Walker was one of the best to ever play the game and he only wants best for UK.....he deserves to voice his opinion and be heard.....that being said, he does seem overly critical of the current Cats and staff at times......he is slowly drinking the kool-aid.......he will get there.......he does need to give more credit to Coach...but he is just not ready yet.....string together a few more wins and all will be happy again.

You know, I'll bet I rooted just as hard for Tubby as any UK fan. I gave him my full support all 10 years he was here. Nobody was sorrier to see him leave that I was. But Billy Gillispie is the coach at Kentucky now, and I gave him that same loyalty form day one. I wish Tubby much success at Minnesota, but BILLY GILLISPIE IS MY COACH NOW AND I SUPPORT HIM 100%.

He is not getting there. He has worked behind the scenes to undermine this coaching staff. That is unforgivable. He was one of my favorite players on the court. Off the court, he wasn't so special.

I have always been a Walker fan. He sems to be lacking judgement in this case now IMHO. UK fans want this team to win to get to the NCAA tournet, not to win over Walker who uses that same university to advance his career. And I did not have to "drink any cool-aid" to know BCG is and will be a great coach here. We lost Bradly 10 minutes in the game, Meeks did not play, Crawford was the man today but was absent when the game was on the line. If Walker can not embrace this coach after what he has done this year coaching a team that 3/4s of the players his buddy Tubby recruited and should not have, then IMHO he probably never will. I mean absolutely no offence to you this is how I feel.

I saw Kenny Walker at the Executive Inn in Louisville, doing his radio show, after the game on December 15th. He was very negative on his show; not at all friendly with the people there; he just seemed like he would rather been anywhere else than there doing something he acted like he did not want to do. I was surprised at his demeanor then; I did not know that he was against BCG and still sucking up to Tubby.
I do not doubt his loyalty to the U.K. program; after all, that is how he makes his living now; but his attitude sucks; plain and simple.
I still would have expected better from him.

Sure they can if they want. Doesn't make them right, necessarily. Some of his comments do seem to him being more loyal to Smith than to UK though.

Sometimes Walker needs to forget he's a fan and a former player and remember that he's paid to cover and support UK basketball. Go back and listen to the show after the GW loss and you would think he was a UofL or IU fan the way he laughed it up and celebrated. Don't believe me, find the tape. Glover has caught so much that he's putting on the good face, I'm sure he wants UK to win but he'll have to go along when BCG gets this turned around. Glover has always said he thought BCG was a good hire but his disdain for those who wanted Tubby gone arose the first time we lost - I'll never forget it.

I did not hear Kenny Walker, so I can't comment on that, specifically. YET, ironically, when some folks were upset with Coach Smith, they would sometimes use Kenny Walker's critical statements about him as evidence to support their point. So Walker had most obviously criticized Coach Smith, too.

In other words, I do hear what you are saying, Will. Also, folks can listen to someone's words and come away with totally different impressions. Further, FWIW, I have heard that the station's show tends to be more questioning, pessimistic, or whatever one wants to call it, than WLAP, for instance.

Maybe too much is being read into Walker's comments. Again, I did not hear the show, though.

Well-said, Matt.

Too, let's be careful that we don't start attacking Kenny Walker because of the impressions of a few people (and that is to discredit no one, but merely to share that folks can have different impressions). Again, as I just posted, anti-Smith folks had stated here that Walker was dissatisfied with our former coach. Thus, some of the things stated on this thread do not quite pass the logic test. In addition, I've read no direct quotes here, only impressions, etc. I'm just one who needs direct quotes.

Most every talk host I myself have heard had questioned some of Coach Gillispie's coaching moves earlier in the season. Yet, I cannot imagine anyone not having seen the extreme improvement we have seen in the Cats, and I'm, thankfully, not hearing those questions now. In regard to Walker, when I had heard Kenny Walker in past years, I had noticed he was not nearly as enthusiastic or optimistic, period, as I myself am, for instance. :icon_mrgreen: Here's hoping he becomes more enthusiastic and optimistic as the season progresses still farther! :)

I suspect some may be reading too much into it. Yes, Kenny Walker is one of my all-time favorite Cats. I, too, will not question his dedication to, or support of, the Cats. GO CATS! GO COACH G!

Want to provide some evidence of that statement, or is that just off the cuff, like usual?

Kenny was in our office a couple of times per year over the last few years selling ads. I had the opportunity each time to talk UK with him for as long as I was willing to listen. He'll talk your head off. I can tell you that if he was a Tubby Smith fan he had a very unique way of showing it. For the past 2 seasons (or 3 or 4 visits) he was never positive about Tubby or the team. He was very frustrated with their lack of effort and heart. He always said that the new guys just didn't care about UK the way his group did. I've not heard any of his comments this year, but couldn't have been more surprised to read in this thread that he was still loyal to Tubby.

This is my feeling on the issue.

I think we're just sensitive to whatever it is we believe. Some of us get *****ly about Tubby, some of us get upset when people rip Gillispie -- whatever "our thing" is, we protect that and don't like it when someone criticizes it. You can go back a year and see many threads on various boards about how Walker bashed Tubby. I remember them well.

No, I'm not at liberty to give the evidence. I know for a fact that it happened, if you chose to not believe that, so be it.

The truth doesn't cease to exist just because you ignore it.
