COACH: PREDICTIONS 'A WASTE OF TIME'
ATHENS, Ga. --
Kentucky's 63-58 victory at Georgia on Saturday figures to send UK fans into flights of fanciful speculation of conquests to come. It moved forward Perry Stevenson to label UK as a contender to win the Southeastern Conference this season.
"It just means we're in the running to come out on top in the SEC," he said. "If you can win on the road, you have a pretty good chance."
But UK Coach Billy Gillispie pooh-poohed conjecture on what the Cats must do to win a conference championship or make good on what might still be a long-shot effort to receive an NCAA Tournament bid.
"You can look at anything you want to," he said. "And a lot of people spend a lot of time wasting on what you need to win (and) what you need to do to stay in the race.
"You can spend three or four hours. At the start of your thought process, you say, 'We really need to win.' Then you spend three hours: what-if, what-if, what-if. At the end of it, you say, 'We really need to win.' That's a waste of time."
