Believed to be a UK lean. Josh has shut down recruiting so as not to distract him from his senior season so information has been skinny.

The weekly recruiting report from the AJC discusses him:
KENTUCKY
Wildcats (1-1, 0-0)
Somerset (Ky.) Pulaski Southwestern defensive end Josh Minton made his second consecutive trip to Lexington to watch the Wildcats' victory against Idaho State on Saturday. Minton, the state's No. 4 overall prospect, also took in Kentucky's loss to Louisville. He has offers from Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida and Oklahoma in addition to the Wildcats and Cardinals. He claims no leader. ... Kentucky also remains interested in Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy offensive lineman Mike Berry, but he continues to favor Auburn.
• Next: Saturday at Indiana, 6:45 p.m. (ESPN Classic)

Todays Atlanta Constitution reported thatMinton attended the first two home games for UK, but that his recruiting was still up in the air. For what it is worth.

I have it on good authority that Minton really wanted to go to UK but they've done a pathetic job recruiting him. I know several people that work at Southwestern and they all say the same thing, Brooks has hardly contacted him. Last summer when some of the big schools were already offering Brooks told him to "hang in there, we'll keep watching you this fall". He still might wind up there but nobdy at Southwestern thinks they've done much of a recruiting job on him. I also heard comments about how bad the UK staff (not just this one) has alienated the high school coaches.

Yup, alienated the high school coaches so much that Chuck Smith took a job to join the staff. I mean, what does Smith know about high school football in Kentucky. Every other thread about recruiting seems to state how much the coaches in the state love Joker. Granted he isn't the recruiting coordinator any more, but he is still very involved. We may have been late on Josh, but no way in hell has this staff alienated the high school coaches in this state.

Exactly. This is the very first time that I have ever heard any suggestion that this staff has alienated the high school coaches. All prior information has been the complete opposite. Evidently, it is easy to imagine anything when one has it hard for a coach. And, it is hilarious how the criticisms abound about everything when fans are upset with a coaching staff.

Chuch Smith received a huge pay raise when he went to UK. Brandon was finished with his high school career and there was nothing left for Chuck to prove on the high school level. Now would be the perfect opportunity to make the jump to college. Chuck is probably the best candidate on the staff to eventually make a good college head coach. If it doesn't work out he can go anywhere in the state to finish out his high school career and get his years in for retirement. Besides, Chuck taking a coaching job doesn't have any correlation to how well UK is recruiting in the state and the relationship with the high school coaches. A sample size of n = 1 means nothing.
If you had bothered to READ what I said I clearly stated that it was what I heard from several people that work at Southwestern. It has nothing to do with MY attitude toward this staff. I also said previous coaching staff's (not just this one) had alienated the high school coaches. There was probably more of that going on with Mumme's staff but not every high school coach in the state is sold on Joker, contrary to popular opinion.

Hiring a high school coach to the staff should impact relations between high school coaches and the staff. That coach should understand what HS coaches in this state are dealing with and what they would like to see from the coaching staff. That coach should also have a decent relationship with most of the state coaches. That should have been a consideration in the hiring. I think many HS coaches would also feel good about a coaching staff that was willing to hire from their ranks.
Again, this it the first time I have ever heard any such sentiment about this staff.

Perhaps this alienated thing dates back to the Mumme days when his arrogant "go to heck" attitude was widely reputed to be alienating many Ky HS coaches. I know one of Morriss' early goals was to work on un-doing and improving relationships with in-state HS coaches.Maybe these efforts by Morriss and then Brooks haven't quite reached all the schools yet.
As badly as UK needs players of this calibre, it's hard to imagine that they wouldn't be going after him "whole hog".

Josh and his folks have mad a few trips over to UL with the usual comments; "great trip, I like the coaches/players..........."
Problem as far as UL goes, is that Petrino concentrates on offensive players, wideouts, QB's, TE's and the all soooooo important 5'11 - 6'0 "athletes"..... Minimal regard to O-lineman, not to mention D players. I think you guys know all about that.
Anyway, I think Joe Whitt Jr is a very good recruiter, but could be a great recruiter if he was not chasing offensive players across the country, with minimal attention paid to the other side of the ball.
In Petrino's defense, offense is all he knows, he is removed the defensive aspect of the game. The Steeler's have the same problem, but it's reversed.
Its UK-Va Tech for Minton.
I think Va Tech may have the lead. he has told one of his classmates he is looking to UK to give him a reason to go to UK.

One obvious reason: driving from Somerset to Blacksburg is at least five hours farther if Minton's family plans to attend games and visit him on campus.
