Man, they didn't waste any time getting off to a raucous start, did they?

Sheer speculation:
1. Tony is saved because the 911 operator dispatches help when no one will answer.
2. Uncle Junior gets whacked. Not because he shot Tony, but because he's dangerous. He is confessing to crimes from the 70's, he is afraid of dead people calling him on the phone, and he would say anything to anybody under questioning.
Looking forward to next week!

Question for you guys....was the character who hanged himself a major player in past seasons? I don't remember him at all, which isn't too shocking considering the show's been on hiatus since mid-2004. lol

I never saw him before either. I think the message there was that there is no leaving the family business, period. That may come into play later I think.
Also, I can do without these surreal dream sequences, be they from Carmella, Tony, whomever. At first I thought I had missed the first part of the show somehow because that made no damned sense to me at all for a while.

My favorite line: Isn't it ironic that Lou Gehrig died of Lou Gehhrig's disease? :ggrin:

Christopher may have the best one liner's from any character on tv, ever. That excludes Doc Holiday of course.

That episode made me really think about how much family really means in the end.

That's what I thought, Dave.
The message of "you can never leave the family" could've been stressed with a more major character IMO, unless the angry wife has something to contribute to the storyline. After all, the husband was talking to the Feds, so maybe the wife still has a role to play this season?
Can't wait to find out!

David Chase is an amazing writer and he holds nothing back. MIght i add off the topic that HBO will have a new series by the creator of Six Feet Under and American Beauty, its about vampires in Lousiana's Garden District, if i re call, that should be wonderful.

Sounds very "Ann Rice-like" to me. lol
I watched "Big Love", which follows "The Sopranos" and chronicles the misadventures of a polygamist Mormon family in Utah. Bill Paxton and several other recognizable big-name actors star, and it looks like it might be a good one too.

Good catch. I had forgotten all about that card game.
Here' what I found on the actual HBO website:
"Boss or no, you don't raise your hand to another made guy."
Eugene is a member of the crew that was headed by Ralph Cifaretto, and was one of the few people who actually seemed to get along with the late capo. He's one of the newer made guys in New Jersey; he got his button at the same ceremony as Christopher. That day Eugene stood up in front of Tony Soprano and the rest of the family, and pledged his undying devotion to them, above any and all else.
It wasn't long after his swearing-in that Eugene got an object lesson in what "devotion" truly means. It was his card game that was robbed by Jackie Aprile, Jr. and his cohorts in their attempt to impress Tony Soprano. The robbers were high on crank, and ended up killing the dealer and wounding Furio. Not long after, Aprile, despite being the only son of the former don, was executed. He'd shot a made man and because of that, there was nothing anyone could do for him. It was, as all made men know, a thing of honor.

I want to know if anything ever happens with the Russian, Furio, or that Meadow's boyfriend saw the Short Fat guy doing the deed early that morning. I wonder if they will bring back those side plots.

I agree 100%.
The episode with the Russians (Christopher and Paulie lost in the NJ Pine Barrrens) was one of my all-time favorites. It had such great promise, then they just dropped it.
I'd love to see Furio come back as well, and Finn (Mr. Meadow) getting whacked has potential, especially now that he's part of the Soprano clan.
I'm curious where this season is headed. There were several "what if something happens to you?" type references in that first episode Sunday night. Johnnie Sack's wife talking about the Feds seizing all their possessions....Christopher with his "what, I'm not a Captain now!?" comment....Eugene (the hanging victim) and wife discussing (hoping?) what happens should Tony die...Carmello is ALWAYS worrying aloud about what whould happen to her and the kids in Tony's absence.
With Tony seemingly out of the action temporarily, is there where those below in the hierarchy start jockeying for position?

During the recap of past seasons before this episode they showed Veto in the truck...this will be addressed IMHO.

I'd like to see Carmello or even Meadow start representing the family. Maybe have Carmello save Tony, when the widow of the suicide victim comes after him. She could whack her in the hospital and wheel her into the hall of the emergency room as a DOA.

I think Tony will figure out the reason for the suicide and wack the widow ASAP.

I think the reason he committed suicide had less to do with the Feds and more to do with the fact that he knew it was the only way that his family could move to Florida, and possibly save his son from drugs.
I think that she'll quickly move down there and that story arc will be complete.
I also think a theme of this year will be Carm's desire to make her own money, to be in more control of her life. I think the moment when she realized her friend purchased her own car will be a significant moment for the remainder of the season.
I also think Junior will be taken care of shortly. It will be interesting to see if Tony takes care of it himself or makes his brother-in-law finish it for him.
My hope is that something happens to Janice. I just can't stand the woman!
