I posted this on another board but I thought I would see what you guys think since this is what I like to think of as my home board. :)

I think at the so called skills position you can't teach speed, you might be able to improve it, but speed comes before football is played. You can't teach eye-hand cordination, you can only improve it. You cannot teach jumping ability or turning a pass route 90 degrees at full speed.

In the trenches you cannot teach quickness, you can improve it but the ability has to be there to work with. Same with strength, some players are simply stronger. I've heard Coach Brooks talk about "country strong" and anybody that has played football around that type of strength knows what he is talking about. Be that as it may you cannot replace dedication in the weight room.

In all the positions you can'teach passion, smarts, or desire. I have heard that 75% of doing any job is showing up for work on time ready to go. You really can't teach a player to make the right decisions at the burger doodle (and other places) in the off-season. You can teach him what the right decision is --- but he has to know how to make that decision unsupervised. I think Coach Brooks and Joker know this very well and know what type of person they want to play for them. I think they know how to teach football and they know the charactor and ability a kid has to have to learn this tough game. Thats why Coach Brooks and the entire staff are successful ---- They recruit successful people!

We wouldn't have 70-71 players returning for Spring Practice were they not successful people of character. Yes, I agree.

Well-said, Levi. I so agree that Coach Brooks and Joker, in particular, recruit character. The UK players' coachability and the staff's ability to teach the game are a great combination and a large part of the UK football program's success the past two seasons.
